I didn't want you to think I was ragging on your filter. My computer is the problem. I plan to get a new one after I get a little further along in my rendering/lighting education.

scripting

I do a lot of it. But I'm not very good. I use mel, but lately I have been rewriting everything I write in mel, in python also - I'm trying to convert to python. I wish ff would have went with python rather than lua. smile:(

LOL no your right, it irratates me too. The original Thrash was rejected because of time [ 2.24 on my machine, 10 sec on Thrashes machine smile:eek: ] This stripped back version take 1.24 min on my machine, I always try and get them down to under a minute [ AO makes it hard ] but with all the new stuff I'm not sure what the drag is and how to speed up the filter more with out loosing the look smile:|

Yeah, you would cry if you saw what I did to it.
I don't think ff should care any more if filters are slow or fast - some of ff's users have high-end equipment. Something like a speed rating would be nice. I mentioned this a long time ago but it went nowhere.

I'm going to try to pick it up as I go but it's a low priority - that could change as soon as I need it for something.
Haven't you done some flash related scripting? Does adobe have a scripting language that works with their entire creation(?) suite?

Speed guide would be good, I think one of the things is that it slows down the submission time clagging up the system, whether that has changed with FF2 where you render the thumb nails etc on your own machine, I don't know. I hate using slow filters myself, it's not really the final render time it's more the tweaking time thats frustrating.

Flash was visual, so no I have no scripting knowledge and I presume you can speed up a filter with scripting smile:) How is your project going smile:)

Actually, things were going along fine until I stumbled on to this little thing called dynamics. Dynamics is a black hole that sucks you in with no chance of escape. The filter forge addiction pales by comparison. After I extricate myself from dynamics, I have tried and failed three times now, I will get back to work on my project.
Btw, my project has expanded in some areas but I have also decided to take a long-term approach to finish it. There are many things, just for the sake of practicality (food and stuff), that have to be done between now and when I get to really work on it.

Dynamics is that to do with the movement or the interreaction with the enviroment?

Yes, but that's like saying filter forge is used for image processing - all its sexiness and awesomeness is lost. I’m at a loss to describe it. smile:(
Here are some demos done by Duncan Brinsmead, he actually wrote the current solver used in maya, not to mention paint effects - he's the man. smile:)
