bring the stones closer together... too much mortar.

Thank you Totte! And thanks to all those who helped me figure out the basics via the forum.
Kraellin, you can adjust the mortar space down to zero through the controls I included. Next on my to-do list is figuring out how to add bump controls to the mortar as well. Hi, I really like this filter, but there are a few things that can be improved.
1) The stones are unnaturally smooth, 2)as you said, the grout is very flat. I would also recommend adding a jumble feature since now it's too obvious that all the bricks came from the same height map. I made a few edits to resolve the first two and a few other changes that I thought might help. I'm too lazy to implement a jumble feature, so I'll leave that to you if you think it needs it. I also attempted to speed it up a bit, but failed in that regard (its fast enough already though). So yeah, nice filter. Edit to Eilime's Stone.ffxml |

Preset 2 is my favorite (or 3) depends of you count 0-7 or 1-8. Btw, thats why programmers have 9 fingers, 0,1,2.....

Thank you again Totte! I hoped that the new presets would better represent the possibilities with this filter, as I intended for it to be very versatile.
Walpen, there is an adjustment to add finer grain to the stones, as well as a control over the overall reflectivity which can tone down the unnatural smoothness as you may see from some of the new presets. I'd like to add a finer level of graininess to it that doesn't affect the stone borders like you have in your example, but frankly I've tweaked this so much I think it's probably time I move on to making an entirely new filter ![]() I appreciate the example you provided too, although a bunch of the node connections seem discombobulated in it. You can't seem to distort the shape of the stones anymore for example, and that was an integral part of the filter, so I would recommend some further adjustments before submitting it. Who is "Eilime" referred to in your ffxml name by the way? I did a search and couldn't find that filter author. I did fix the grout flatness in a recent update though, so hopefully you find that helpful. I'm not sure what you mean by a "jumble" feature, but if you don't mind explaining it I am very excited to learn new techniques! Lareieli, so I looked at your filter again and realized that most of the things I 'found' before were just me being thick. So you can pretty much ignore what I said above. However, there are still a few things I'd change, so I took another stab at editing it.
First I think that a couple of perlin noises were not adding much, so I removed them, I simplified it a bit and with sphynx's forced buffer shaved a few seconds of the render time. Take a look and see what you think. Also I have no idea who Eilime is. I'm just as confused about that. Jumble is a fill mode of bricks and tiles, it is easy to work into your filter, but not me original edit (though I added it to this one). Stones in Mortar Update 2.ffxml |
