Hi All
I'm calling this thread Hole Control Phase 1 In phase 1 I'm just trying to make one round hole that can be placed in any xy location and is adjustable in size with same visual quality as the After picture. So Phase 1 is precise Hole placement and visual quality. If this can't be done nicely then there will be no Phase 2 If that can be done then Great! then I'll move on to Phase 2 in a new thread which for simplicity sake I'll talk about then. I'm going to post my Before picture for anyone to download to try out ff on to see if the same quality result can be made. It's 1500 x 1500. Not sure if that's to big for this forum. The AFTER picture is also 1500 x 1500 and should be viewed at 100% to see how nicely anti aliased the hole area looks as well as how well the detail of background holds up while flowing around the hole. This was created in corel painter 7 effects>esoterica>blobs, but there is no placement control, the hole just gets added to a random location. Which is the first reason I what this in FF. I'll try to pull together some of the works from similar threads. I've talked about this is past and got help, but still can't achieve this result that looks as good, smooth and natural in FF as the After picture I'm posting. Thanks for any help. |

Yes it is and from the link you gave there is one I'll start with. Credits say Zev. And it was called Uberblobs, but for the sake of this thread I've modded it and call it Hole control 1. I don't want credit, But would like to wind up with filter that's usefull for my purposes but available to all. This produces a grid of holes rather than a single hole. But the effect around the holes looks like what I'm after. I know how to ad x y placement, but first I need to lose the grid and just have 1 scalable hole. Hole control 1.ffxml |

FIRST RESULTS holes are nice but just need 1 instead of 4
The tiles componant is used 3 times and there's a lot of connections so I'm not sure how to swap the tiles components out for something else to make a single hole. Thinking of free ellipse to make the hole, but not sure if that's the best route. Any help would be great. Thanks ![]() ![]() |

Hey Frank, a free ellipse is what you're looking for.
If you look at the tiles, they are set to "solid fill". How do I explain this... if the center coordinate of one tile is (25%, 25%), where % is of the whole image, then its color is the color of the "Tiles" input at that same coordinate. Free ellipse doesn't have a "solid fill" option, but you can easily choose the center coordinate (Origin X and Y). You may need to "look up" the color of the free gradients at that coordinate. Hope this helps! |

Thanks Adam
So do I need to replace (swap)the 3 tile components with 3 free ellipse components? I could not get that work. Right now the Free Grad is hooked to tiles and Morter on the first 2 tile components And if I swap tiles component for free ellipse component I can't figure out where those 2 hookups from free grad should go to on Free Ellipse. |

Hey Adam I found where you had helped me with this last year in this forum.
Today I added controls to what you had done. I might have phase one done. I'll try to post the results and the modded ffxml here tomorrow |

Phase 2 was going have all that Phase 1 had plus shapes other than circles.
Since Free polygon was used rather than free ellipse this can do circles and other shapes. So Phase 2 is Done, no need for separate Phase 2 thread. I'll call the resulting filter Hole Control 2. Hints on use. 1: For quicker results turn off AA. The presets all have big AA to smooth hole nice. 2. Pointy shapes mess up the flow with creases, so play with settings to round off shapes as in this rounded triangle. ![]() |

Here's the filterHole Control 2
2 of the controls Color and Strength seem to do the same thing. However if I remove the color control, filter fails to work. Sorry for the redundancy and probably should have named "color" other strength or anti strength. Hole Control 2.ffxml |

For phase 3
I want to use a Photoshop selection mask to make the hole shape, rather than free polygone. I have no idea how add that function to this filter. I remember some of you helped on this as well last year. I'll find the thread and see if a Photoshop selection mask can be added to this filter. If so I'll call it Hole Control 3. I'm guessing adding that to this will be over my head, and if it's beyond my ability, I might have make a new separate filter that does holes based on Selections but won't have an option do the free polygone based shapes. If so I'll Name it Hole Control Select. Side note: If I have left out a control that you would like, or if you just want to clean up my slop, feel free to modify Hole Control 2 and re post the new version here. Or if you would like to try to add a Photoshop selection mask option to make the hole shape. Go for it and post new version here. Thanks For any help or advise ![]() |
