When using Scale and reducing a picture size, it doesn't simply reduce it, it also fills the area with the same picture.
How do you reduce a picture with Scale having as result only a smaller picture in the center of the result screen?

You need to crop the image. Free rectangle is the easiest way.

Interesting solution Indigo Ray

I had this same problem once and found another way way to fix it, although now I do not remember how was the fix I did, and do not remember the filter, but was something different.

This is because the scale by default tiles the input image when is reduced below the original size

I think that I remember although not sure that the tiling DEPENDS also on the SOURCE you give to the Scale, I mean that if you feed the source image through the IMAGE component it will tile always, but if you use the COLOR CONTROL you have the option to disable the tiling in the color control settings. Although I am not totally sure about this and I can´t test it in this moment to see if this is true.

Color controls basically give you several extra options but don't give you the full benefit of having the filter's canvas size alter accordingly when images are imported, hence you need to take the extra annoying step of adjusting canvas sizes via manual input.

Indigo's method's basically simple as it gets.

Thanks Indigo Ray, SpaceRay and Skybase.
Free Rectangle is indeed a good solution. I did the same thing using Frame, but Free Rectangle is probably faster and not giving troubles if used together with Bomber.
