I've been racking my brain tring to figure out how to properly separate parts/levels of an image from the effect in my "HeavyMetal" filter. For example below, I would like to separate the rose so that I can run the effect just up to the outside edge of it and be able to control the amount of "growth" that I run through it. Jffe's "Metal Melt" does what I am looking to do with the threshold, but I'm having difficulty applying it to this filter.

Any help would be greatly appreciated smile:)

Here is the filter and the example pic.....

You guys are totally awesome!!! .....from the left aorta.....the one that pumps love smile:D LOL.....

Funny how it works with me.....I can quickly find a simple solution to CF's leafs.....but then I get dumbfounded with threshold and set alfa.....don't figure....

One last itsy-bitsy question.....is there a way to get rid of those pesky height ridges.....or do you have to live with them?

----To be rid of them almost entirely, or only where you want them gone ?

Although I think that they do add atistic character, I was thinking that a totally "clean" and smooth metal surface may be used for more 'professional' applications.....

I believe that they are a result of the height being set to max.....so I don't know if this is possible.....

----Hmm, I dunno. I've had luck with angelboi's 100 Reflectivity - 33.33 Reflection Blur - 100 Metallic settings, but those are somewhat height dependant, and always seem to introduce height curves in the image. Maybe experiment with using inputs for those 3 settings, the metallic part goes *soft* a bit, but maybe increasing the lighting Brightness/Sat settings with the right HDRI map selected could work.

Ah, I didn't think of that.....a 1 frequency bounce or impulse just might work.....and maybe the light might be it too.....since it is the byproduct of it with height. I going to check that out right now.....

Thanx jffe, I really appreciate it smile:)
