Hello, I have seen that now that finally FF 5.0 is released with the 4 new PLUS components that use slaves as the Loop components, that seems to be awesome and useful, BUT the problem I see is that FF team has not explained HOW to use them, or at least I have not found it, because in the feature description is only what they are but not how to use them

i have seen that many of you filter forge experts and experienced users have already been using and showing things done with these components and are enjoying and testing them to see what can be done

Well, I am sorry that I do not understand and know how to use them, even seeing the examples you have put. i admire that you are able already to be able to use them and that you have the skills and knowledge for this, great

Please, could you be so kind to explain how to use and combine these new PLUS components ?
what possible uses can be achieved with this?
When to use them instead of the older ones?

I think that if FF team do not have the time or persons to make a good and well done guide on HOW to use the new things of FF 5.0, they could pay to someone of you to make a tutorial about them

Thanks very much for any possible help

I should first off mention, to all who are confused and are just beginning with FilterForge: The plus components are relatively advanced, and you absolutely don't need to use them to achieve the effects you regularly want.

The plus components expand on the current set of components by exposing various data including utilities such as coordinates, randomness, and other specialized data within the bomber, bricks, tiles, and pavements. This gives us extra abilities to tweak material in such a manner that gives us further ability to tinker the input.

We have a couple examples already with the Plussabilities forum post which you've already seen.

The plus components behave kinda like loops. The data you get from the tiling components and/or the bomber can be used to manipulate the incoming data. The data from the plus components which you work with are mostly values 0 to 1 or iterative values if you're using the bomber.

While it will require examples, I'll try to explain some basics here. Others can fill the rest.

And it should be clarified once again: you absolutely don't need to use these components to get most of the effects.

Here is something to get you started.

I did not draw in the center points for Element and Cell, but they're simply they center of each rectangle. If chaos is zero, these two points are at the same location.

If you turn up chaos, you'd see these rectangles displace in random ways for each cell.

Important: what makes the slaves hard to understand is the preview and the preview value - I don't really use the previews due to the lack of "global" represetation (like any other component.

To understand the visual content a certain slave node in the traditional FF way, connect it directly to the Bricks/Pavements/Tiles inputs and set mortar to 0.

Here is how that preview concept work - it may be easier to understand:

Thanks for you answers and explaining it a little, I agree with you Skybase that these may be for advanced users and you must know what to do with them, and what to with the data they give and expose.

i know that I do not need to use these new things, BUT if they are now available and is supossed to be useful and helpful in some way, I wanted to know how, but maybe as said, this may be only useful for experienced a d skilled filter forgers that know well how to make filters, and this will help them make them easier than before with more options and new abilities

i agree that the plussabilities thread examples is very good and excellent for learning, but it seems that this was used at start and then now is abandoned

I think usage of stuff is all situational and that you should care more about design, unless it is your plan to 100% use those components.

As a basic note, remember how FIlterForge works at it's basics. Each component is really just passing in values between each other. Values between 0 to 1 (for basics) and HDR values that can go above and beyond. Components such as the look up are really just looking at those values to determine what to put there. Same thing goes for every component.

The plus components here are giving access to more specific pieces of data, for example the corners of each element which we previously couldn't access directly. These pieces of data are like instructions to FilterForge. It's basically saying "ok place a value here based on the input value."

I think people stress out too much on the technical side of stuff. I think it's better when you ask, "I have X design, how do I replicate this effect in FilterForge?" Because there are so many ways you can possibly utilize those plus components in the X design you wanna make.

Also really check your email. I sent stuff before and it looks like it's never reached you.
