Hi, I usually use Forge to edit pictures from Corel photo paint. Can someone direct me to tutorial or tell me how using the filter editor to add or set the filter so there is a transparent section at the top or bottom.
For example I used a cloud filter but only want that to appear on the top half of the landscape photo I'm editing. How would I do that. I know I can make a separate cloud image but I love to be able to do that directly in forge. Thank you Kimberly |

It would be pretty simple to modify the (any) filter to do that, but the blending isn't gonna work out unless you literally have a straight flat landscape that you want to put fake clouds above, or you have already removed the background and it's all white where the fake clouds/sky should go.
Otherwise you'd have to do it in Photoshop or Gimp or Corel ? Using whatever technique works to do partial layering or masking and layering like that. Could be as easy as using the magic wand (in Photoshop) to select the 'top half' of your picture, then run the cloud filter on just that area. jffe Filter Forger |

The pictures have already been prepped and have a transparent area at the top, side, center of picture or bottom depending on the effect I need. Once I add the clouds, outer space, planet, grass, pattern, metal doors or whatever then I can go back to use a blending rag or other brushes to fixed the difference. I can also use painting effect usually watercolor to get with that also.
Another reason I want to do this is so I can make a bunch of half page effects then save them folder for future use. Doing this would save me a step. My designs are often pretty 1960's wild due to my clients, such as band who need album covers, so I have some very conventual. How do I learn to modify the filter? Thank you |

Mock Up Filter
^ Grab that, and ins ert it into the clouds filter (or any that you want to use) and just plug everything fr om that (clouds or whatever) filter, in to the Profile Gradient (color 2) wh ere the Blocks module is now (and then delete it, it's just a placeholder to illustrate). Then plug that into the "Result" module and then close/save the filter, and you should see clouds (or whatever) up top. You can alter the height with the threshold slider, from 75% sky to 25% sky. To clarify, copy everything but the "Result" module and paste it in to the clouds filter, that's what I mean by *insert* it, just right click and draw a lasso-box around it all then right click *copy* and open the clouds filter to paste it in. jffe Filter Forger |

Best of luck. I'd suggest opening/editing some filters you like, see how "it's done", and go from there.

I have been playing with other filters trying to understand how the process works. In time I will get there.
