After using the filters in Filter Forge for a while in FF7, I thought I would have a go at creating my own in FF8, but fell at the first hurdle.
In the Filter Editor, I clicked on File > Open (or I used Control-O). In either case, I was able to select a source file. However, on clicking Open, then that was it. No image was opened. No error messages. The icon in the editing screen did not change.
How do I get started? I cannot find anything in the Help system, nor could I find anything by searching these forums.

You can use the Image -component (under External) to access the loaded image, or use the Color Control -component (under Controls) to load additional images.

I have done as you suggested, and have made a start on adding a few controls to the image.
