Hey, guys. I was hoping someone might be able to help me figure out how to make this filter render faster. It can take up to 6 hours to render a simple 5000x5000 jpg image.... and for what it is doing it seriously doesn't seem like it deserves that kind of time.
Basically all it does it take an input image, pull random chunks out of it, and randomly throw them around. Filter Screenshot Jumble 1 Image (Simplified).ffxml |

Check the 'Roughness' and 'Details' settings on the bomber, the higher those are the slower it will be. That's how it is with the noise components anyways and depending on how intricate your design is, you might get away with having them as low as 10 or 20 and cut the render time by well over 1/2.

Potential alternative method that makes this really simple. Instead of having a random free rectangle grab a bunch of areas, I just have the input image be shifted around using the offset. Since each particle would be now just a static thing, you can now control the random splatter via chaos H and V parameters.
Any iterating parameters in FilterForge tends to be slow. For example, details and repeat values are often times just sluggish. I suggest keeping numbers low and reasonable. Also, for any integer inputs, don't use regular sliders. That's what the red explanation point is saying. ![]() |

@jffe Wow I don't know how I missed that. Very good point! I can't believe I had Details at 100, lol. When you slide it to 0 you can't even see a difference.
@SpaceRay Awesomeeeee. Thank you so much! Exact same functionality, and way quicker. Just what I needed. @Skybase Nice idea! I'm going to keep a copy of that one around too. The only problem I have with this one tho is that sometimes I need to start with a non-seamless image and I don't want to hit the edges in the middle of the ellipse. But for images that start out seamless, this is even simpler. Thanks again, everyone! Melissa |
