Hi, i'm a newbie editor and created my first own filter based on the 'Random Spokes' snippet fr om 'uberzev'. My goal was a special blending look where the focus point (in the original the center) can be moved arbitrarily. It works well as long as square images are used. As soon as other image formats are used, it doesn't work anymore. The specific effect wh ere the 'lines' focus on a certain point is displayed incorrectly.

A workaround is to square the desired image beforehand. I would like to know if the problem can be solved within the editor. I have already tested replacing the obsolete components with the new ones and also changing the offset parameters XY Anchor. Strangely enough, even with a square format, the result was different from the original snippet.

Maybe someone knows some advice?
Attached is the original filter with comparison to newer components.

Welcome to the fun smile:)
At some point thru its years and different versions the offset component has changed. With bugs fixes to it, updates and then the move to non-square (xy) offset
results that you can get are also different. I still use the old offset in some cases where the filter is square only just because of the fact its a different result.
This example shows a filter with FF11 with a new offset versus the old offset. Nothing has change only I connected an old offset...

When using some of the older filters that are only for square images sometimes a re-do of the entire filter in needed or there are other ways
to accomplish the same thing. Unless someone beats me to it I will gather some examples and post them.

Hi, that the functionality itself might have changed i also mentioned. At least i don't think I've overlooked any settings, which is why the results differ.

Ah, i did not know that there are some that are only designed for square images. Good to know.

Filter Forge started life as a square only then migrated to non-square. There was some workarounds but mostly within a
narrow scope of the filter being created itself. Here is an example of another way of creating a ray-type of filter that you can
experiment with......This is also for non-square images.

You can also use this with random spokes but some tweaking is in order as well as experimenting to find what fits your filter....

Thanks for the time you took. About the background: More precisely, i want to achieve an iris (eye) like effect, i.e. with editable different brightnesses that align to the focus point, like in 'Random Spokes'. So not only 'pure rays'. I will test your examples later.

You could also check to see how others accomplished this. Iris Filters

That was a good idea. In the filter "My Eye Generator" from "Zep Palin" an effect was found that leads to similar results. There a noise curve is used.

After some more trial and error i managed to make the original filter usable for non-square formats by exchanging the components and using HDR colors. I uploaded the version as a snippet.
