I have 30 days left on my trial version, and I don't want to run out of time with having filters that I just do not like. So I am trying to update my library so it looks better and that all of my filters are high quality (HU is a different boat).
So anyway, in order to start I would like to get everyones oppinions on my ugliest filters and why you think that; so I can revisit them and make them better. I just hate having filters from 2 months ago that are just really not all that good. So please review my library and give me one or two filters that you think are just bad and why. Thanks. ![]() P.S. Be blunt, but also know that I have the right to ignore your suggestions if I do not think them applicable. ![]() |

I don't really care for the way that Scorched Parchment looks because of the burn itself. The burned area looks too solid in one color.
If you could lighten the burn the closer it is to the undburned area maybe. That's the only one. ![]() |

---Yer best bet, is just to just pick 2 or 3 a day, and update them the best you can now. Focus on making them faster if possible, and expanding their range in whatever way seems best to you. You can't go wrong with updating *average* use filters, then talking about them and showing examples on the forums here. ![]() jffe Filter Forger |

I dont know....you have alot of realy cool looking filters.
I guess if pressed, i would say the "Dragon Hide" would be my least favorite. I do alot of texturing of creatures, and this one does not seem like something i would be able to use to texture a dragon or dino or alien beasty. It looks more like a groundcover than a creatures hide. I actually like your scorched parchment. The smooth burn pattern is indeed more accurate as to how stiff paper burns than a jagged pattern. Maybe it could use an option to add a bit more blurring to blend a little softer with the paper. That would help make it look like its burning different paper thicknesses. and on the other end of the scale, i love your mercury effect. That looks quite cool and is a bit underrated. Maybe the presets could be revisited, the colours dont do much for me there. Rawn |

Hey Redcap I agree with jffe and I'd also add the comment which I made to you in one of your filter threads previously that adding sample pic in the filter thread can sell the qualities of a filter often far better than the LP can show, it also bumps them up in the forum where more people will view your filters and possible make comments which keeps them alive [ pattern and texture filters it's not so important ]Steves a great exponent of this philosophy and he's got alot of HU [ this is of course not the only reason ] but I'd sure it helped sell them. Anyway thats my five bob worth I hope it's of help [ or ignore ] some how I think/hope you'll be sticking around

***double take*** Was that a compliment??? I thought we were at war ![]() ![]() Hey Redcap, I still think that different metal pattern plates and grating are among the most useful..... As you ask, I will make some improvement comments on some of your older filters..... Steve

Response to all:
Thank you...
I have to agree, this was my least favorite filter of mine. It was also one of my first, hence it stupid simplicity and ... non-uniqueness. Anyway, got it changed, so it actually looks like scales. The update, will still have to be updated I am afraid; however, a much larger improvement. Check June 07, 2007 for the new update, it is titled Scaled Hide. So though Scaled Hide is still not everything I want it to be, it has lead to the creation of 3 brand new awesome filters. Chinese Paper Dragoon, Scales (It is a snippet) and Lizar (which is a distortion filter) Check back June 07,2007 for these. They are cool.
I have found that after revisting my filters I can always seem to find an un-necessary perlin noise or blur or distort, so I am trying to quicken even the filters I like, so I definetly took this comment to heart.
Changed that and Spontaneous Combustion so you can edit a lot of different effects on it, edge roughness, black amount, ect. Thanks again for all your comments, any other thoughts, I am loving this. |

I found this thread - http://www.filterforge.com/forum/read...10&TID=237 somewhat useful when I was first trying to speed up my filters. Other than that, some connections, like feeding modules in where a slider control might go, can look cool, but might take 5X as long to render, so maybe try to only use those when the effect absolutely requires it. Maybe someday CF can do a filter optimizing video tutorial.

I actually read that about a month ago and have to say it is extremely helpful for speeding up filter. About the slider control, I had no idea, will go back and check my filters. ![]() |
