Don't know if there are fast and firm rules on it, but if the filter is comprised for a large part of someone else's work, you should probably ask the maker of the original filter if they are okay on you doing so. Also, if you use a part of someone else's work or a snippet, it is good manners to acknowledge them in the filter description.

Per the license agreement, you can do just about anything you want with the library filters, so this is more a matter of manners than anything else. See EULA for details.

If you submit the filter, it will count on your usage stats if it gets high usage.

Was there a dumb question #1? (Or did I just ask it myself?)

TD is correct. the only thing i'll add is, FF inc. does monitor submissions for clones and will disallow that submission if it's too similar to another. what their standards for this are you would need a response from them. but, we have seen a few rejected because of being too much of a clone of another.

so, it's pretty much an arbitrary as to what FF inc. will allow or wont and i dont know of any laid in concrete rules or even guides for this. i'd just use my common sense and ask myself if this is 'my filter' or 'someone else's' filter and if it's the former, then i might give credit for someone else's ideas or work and submit, but if it's someone's elses ideas and works primarily, and all i've done is a couple of tweaks, why, i just leave it in my filters for my own use.
If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Anyway, Trish, it's hard to see exactly what you did in the little image you posted.
You could try posting a larger image or maybe even the filter file. At the least, you should acknowledge me in the filter description. If you look at my "radical tiles" filter, you'll see that even that was based on a filter called "Radial Spokes Snippet".
My mistake for not acknowledging TD directly. smile:|

I hope you have fun with filter forge. I think it's a really nifty program and I'm upset that my 30-day trial will end in only 4 days smile:cry:

----You can email the FF support crew, Bella, etc., and ask for at least one, if not two 30 day extensions on the demo (it seems like you've been around more than 30 days, but I don't keep track of that kind of stuff really). Since you have posted on the forums, and submitted filters, you will get those extensions if you ask for them. smile:) smile;)

I think I'll do that right now. How hard is it to get a "yes" out of them?

526 X 526 is the max/optimum size for the FF forums pics. If you just changed/added presets, that doesn't count for a mod/new filter.

A filter is not a preset. A preset just shows you what the filter can do. If you want to submit a filter, you gotta either make your own or significantly edit a previously made one. If you take a previously made filter and change it, be sure to change the title and the filter info. I think it automatically changes the author to you.

I know of Bryce, i actually have a version 5.5 Demo, and its pretty cool. I'm not sure if it's possible to take filter forge filters and make stuff with them in Bryce. But I haven't seen Houdini. Let me check it out...
From the gallery, it looks pretty cool. BTW, those sunflowers in that gallery image own Sjeiti's (no offense!). smile;)

Yeah, you got it -- changing a preset doesn't count as a new filter. You'll actually have to create or edit it in the Filter Editor.

BTW, I use Bryce quite a lot and import FF textures into it as pictures. Works great.
