Back in 2008, when I finally bought Filter Forge, I began making things that I always wanted to make.
One of the first things that came to mind was to make a country generator. Basically makes "countries" based on noise patterns or photographs. I just wanted to share this with you guys. Too bad I lost the filter due to a Windows XP error which purged my entire save items, while it retained the contents of my programs. I'm trying to remake the filter to the best of my memory, but it's hitting the ascetic wall. Oh well, I'll upload the ffxml file sometime after I get something good going. ![]() |

One last example then I kinda have something to say.
Because I lost this file, I kinda want to get it back... SO I need some help. I'll upload the basic Country Generator up here after I kinda get things working again. I began re-making the filter in the Mac Beta when it was crashing crazy. Either way I got some basic bits and pieces going and somehow its "close" to it's long lost brother filter. Just needs tons of tweaking, color corrections, and otherwise. I need to finalize certain portions of the filter. I have tons of components flying around doing weird things, and I'm just in the process of removing those temporary bits. I'll get it here as soon as I can. Thanks ![]() ![]() |

Political maps of fantasy worlds! Awesome!
These look great, I hope you can recreate the filter (or something similar). |

I made this out of my memory so basically everything is fresh.
Current version is clearly less complicated than the older one. I did this mostly out of my memory, but whatever the case is, it doesn't look like the old filter at all. The point is I kinda did whatever I can to get back the basic components of the filter. Elements such as how the landmass was generated, outlines, and countries themselves. What obviously needs working is: 1. Ocean masses and water (textures) If you actually look at the older version and compare the renders generated by this version, the water mass looks boring. 2. Several no-nos. I'm breaking construction rules for a temporary time. 3. The shape of the landmass itself. ![]() 4. Coloring method. It's ... ugly. Wonder what I can come up with. Hope I can get this done soon ![]() Country Generator.ffxml |
