smile:) OK so I read through the wiki some and the manual etc and have been playing around with Filter Forge and really like it smile:) I was thinking on makeing a filter for it but had some questions first (I actually have one done but I am nervous about it ROFL)

Anyway so what makes a "good" filter? In other words are there certain things the filter should definitly have and certain things it should not? I did read the do and dont thing about like watching noise with the detail too high etc and I think i effectively avoided all those things but the Filter still seems to be running slow for me if I try to use it in Photoshop. But honestly I am not sure how fast or slow is the norm.

Attached is an image of one of the results of one of the two filters I made (both along the same general theme but one is for columns). This one pretty much is something to make colored stone walls as it was something I needed for a project and for the purpose of my project it works...just not sure it is worth putting up or if its too similar to something else...or if someone else that knows more what they are doing should maybe run it through the paces first or not etc. Just incase it isnt obvious in that example...it basically makes stone that contains color and height variations etc so it looks more like it would if you got a bunch of colored stones to make said wall...but it may be too simplistic to be useful smile:(

Anyway opinions etc would be appreciated and sorry for the ramble Im just being nervous about posting it and making a goob of myself ROFL

OOPS didnt link to the tile *blush*

OK well I am assuming I must have asked the wrong questions since no one answered smile:( Sorry about that. Think I am getting the hang of it now though anyway although don't think I'll be submitting anything as I dont know that what I am making for my own use would be anything anyone would actually ever use but me anyway ROFL

there is no golden rule to making filters, but... if you really want to find and follow some guidelines i'd recommend going back to the early threads in these forums. a lot of basics were covered back then, especially some from the developers.

Hi Ann smile:) If you yourself find your filter creation useful, then odds are that others will find it useful too. Complexity of filter construction has absolutely nothing to do with it....it's all in the "usefulness" of it. There are quite a few filters with "High Usage" rank which are only comprised of a few components.....alot of which are mine..... smile;) smile:)

Hi All :O) Glad someone answered I was starting to worry the filter was so bad I had cooties hehe smile:) My problem is I am just not sure how large etc other people would need it to be and I did read on here in a few posts where people had had their filter turned down because it was too low res etc. Mine was made for a specific purpose so I started at the scale etc I needed for my uses smile:( Not sure its right for anything else.

And just to give you all a laugh since you were so nice to answer...I spent like 3 hours the other night looking around here trying to figure out how or where to submit. I mean like trudged through the forums and all over the main site...only to realize you submit from within Filter Forge DOH! ::headdesk:: yeah with such genious as this maybe I should leave the filter creating to the experts ROFL smile:D

Well I played with it a bit more today (figured out how to add in more control to vary it some) and said heck with it and submitted it smile:) I figure worse they can do is reject it in which case well I used it for what I needed it for and it was a learning experience so it wasn't a loss smile:)
