That looks great Carl. I bet if you did a blend back with the original it would be even better - a little like an ao pass. @ronviers

it needs tone to work
I think it would have to be redesigned a bit to colourize mono pics better ..... this doesn't look that s hot [ with colour shifted version ]

You could do a fuzzy edge detect option to your existing filter as a way to give it something to blend back. @ronviers

hehe, well, it doesnt really look like a turner, but i just wanted to play too no, doesnt take long at all. i think that one came in under 30 seconds. different presets vary, though.
i like yours. i've been following the thread and downloaded most of the originals to play with. but, i think maybe we're both missing something on the turner effect; his stuff has some broad brush swipes and mixes somewhat impressionist with somewhat real. it's an interesting style.
btw, did you do the pencil of the bird? i saw a CW signature and wondered. and if so, bravo! wish i could do that! If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

I agree, so I've redesigned it, still not sure it's Turner, the broad stokes are missing. As a paint effect it has improved

The 'Monster' does have some of the diffuse qualities to it....wonder if you could harness it more into brush strokes with bombers..... Steve

that last one comes closest of all, carl... least in my view. and yes, it is a good painterly effect.
with bombers? hmmm, hadnt thought of that. but, i'd have to cut parts out of the monster and use that. in its current version it's just waaaaay too big to add a bomber to it. i could try it on one of the monster spawns, though. i was thinking of maybe isolating colors then distorting them or elongating them and then adding them back. could probably even do part of that with perlins and without actually trying yet, i'll bet the new math functions might work for some of this, too. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Thats looking interesting Craig
Well I now have two version of the filter, this second one I have redesigned the bomber strokes, here is two example, the first is the more Turnerish settings while the second group of setting give a more avant garde looks, this is as far as I'll go

The one with the more visible brushstrokes looks good.
Could you describe what you're doing in the filter there?
I was playing around w/ brushstrokes for a while, but was never happy w/ the results. I think b/c most ways of doing w/ bombers results in having the foreground, midground and background all treated the same. The computer can't recognize 'areas of interest' so more detail vs background areas.

This filter is no different, it's an illusion relying on the detail with in the inputted photo

Have you thought about maybe splitting the foreground and background, say with an input selection?

No I hadn't, I tend to make my filters self contained so people without photo editing software or a high skill level can get satisfactory result with the supplied controls ......... but having said that you have made me think how nice it would be to really abstract an image but have a selected area retain clarity, maybe even using a moveable varible shape as a mask ....... it's good you've got me thinking

One thing I was playing around with is using highpass to identify areas of higher and lower 'level of detail' on an input image and then using that output to drive a bomber which places brushstrokes. (bigger ones in areas of low detail, denser smaller ones in areas of high detail)
It sort of works - some images have too much noise in the background.

Interesting idea, I have been fiddling with your selection idea and with a bit more work has distinct possibilities

First bike pic is excellantez!!! Second pic is a little too obscure from colors (blues, blacks) being too much alike between forms and background, IMHO....but what do I know.... Steve

LOL....
I reconsidered what I wrote.....several times.....about what is the best way for people to use and take advantage of their time and filters....just stating the obvious which isn't very good for FF....who are quite aware of what is going on here and seem to be quite satisfied with what they have and how things are going....so why should I care or waste anymore breath on it....
Ten deliberate edits on this post just to bury you guys in email notifications.... LOL.... Steve
