Thank you. I am having fun with FF. It seems everything you try generates some unexpected bit that gives a new idea so I copy yhrm to a new ffxml file and recently had to copy hem to a different folder as the 'My Filter' list was a little out of control. smile:)

Not sure if I should litter the forum with my questions or not so the ones related to the current filter will go here.

If you look at the attached filter it is the greeble city which renders in 4 seconds on my machine. I added in a simple bit using Tiles to create some city block with sidewalks. That one renders in 1.01 second by itself. Combine the two via a Blend operation and I waited 10 minutes and it is still thinking about getting started. I tried connecting it various ways to no avail -any ideas?

Ok, well I guess I don't understand what's going on. I put it later in the chain and it worked better but log story short it is still choking. If anyone looks at it and can tell me what's up that would be great. Hopefully I won't wear anyone out but just in case I'm looking for a second job so if I find one I won't be able to ask so many questions. smile;)

I believe it is the Minimum and Maximum that is killing it. Try to achieve a similar effect with just Threshhold, and you should be fine. Minimum and Maximum both rasterize the image, and since we're scaling the image essentially down to 0 (or infinitely small) at the top, it requires a huge amount of rasterization.

YES! Sometimes combining two things that render very fast into only one can become a much slower filter result

This remembers me the Morgantao mistery and the Filter Forge Math

Please see this thread FF math: 30+1=163

In this case 30 seconds + 1 second is not equal to 31 seconds, the real result is 163 seconds after combining them

In your case is perhaps and possibly something similar and another mistery to solve

Look at the end of the thread for a long answer by Vladimir Golovin that explains about this

Well I think I have worn out my playing with this filter. Not enought to submit to the library but maybe some will find it useful to play with.

Also a big tip of the hat and thanks to ThreeDee who answered so many of my noob questions with samples to boot.

Actually I think I am done for now. I think I want to try my hand at making filters for a specific purpose rather than starting with a random filter and trying to find a purpose for it afterwards. smile:)

Oh but sometimes those random filters turn into cool stuff. smile:-) And you can learn a lot from these experiments. I still do that when I got nothing better to do smile:D

Not saying you shouldn´t make specific filters tho. lol. Looking forward to what you come up with! smile:-)

Haha. Thanks -and I agree. The truth is any excuse sends me off on a tangent. I have some stories I want to write and produce but I always start off taking a few minutes to do some other thing and that's the end of that. Years go by with me tinkering. :0 So have to try to force the aging brain to focus. smile:)

Lol, I know so well what you´re talking about. I´m so glad I don´t have a deadline for my little dungeon project,I wonder if that´s a good or bad thing tho smile:p I spend too much time creating filters for the textures. At least they might save me time in the future lol. smile:-)

Well back to the fish for a bit. I have been fixing some of the fish that were getting cut off and had transparency issues and tweaking lighting and other things. Busy now so less time to play but fun nonetheless.

Playing with the greeble output and some of the other filters like CF and M's stretch filter. I think someone who knows more than me can make it much more city like.
