PS..... Do you know how to create the center lines in the patterns???

In the cracks thread, the main structure I'm using two different perlin noise nodes, which are then combined as the high and low of a cells node. Then, I put it through the 'high pass at 100' trick... which I don't understand, but which creates cool effects. It somehow switches from accenting edges, like in standard high pass, to create the center. Check out the attached filter, for an example of this.

Interesting.....I'll check it out.....

I'm finishing some multi-texture stone.....working on getting veins and deposits of mica, graphite, quartz, ect in it.....then I'll be back on this one..... smile:)

Hey, StevieJ, did you ever get around to cleaning this up? Or, at least, posting clearer instruction on the center lines bit? That seems to be the sticking point, everything else seems straightforward.
Just post the bit that's in between the edge lines and the Math Curve Op. you seem to have glossed over the bit that everything else relies on smile;)

If you're interested then you can do this with flat colors instead of using the HDR lighting if you use something like my directional lighting filter, like this:

Aww, almost a year later, and StevieJ's still holding the technique hostage and being a big meanie. smile;)

I kid, of course, but man, I've been trying everything I can think of to get his instructions to work and it's still a no-go.
I feel like I'm searching for lost treasure.

As evidence that he did crack it, i present Page 10 of his WIP thread, showcasing incredible applications of things that are impossible for us mere mortals.

StevieJ, if you ever pop back in and have a moment to reply, just what was this pic in reference to? The little I can see is quite intriguing. Is this a filter in progress or a bit of an art project?
