Did another test on 3D rotation with Smudge, this time with the good ol' teapot.

Same pot before Smudge 3D rotation.

You could conceivably turn the object to almost any orientation, apart from straight from front which would not be possible, as the object would have no depth information to Smudge from. Haven't yet figured out a sensible way to control the rotation, for it doesn't naturally occur around x, y and z axis.

You can sculpt any rotatable 3D object that is symmetric and that has it's fattest parts on the symmetry plane in this fashion. Or, if you build two separate height maps for the two sides, it doesn't even have to be symmetric.

I don't have a proper rotation function in this example, just one preset rotation, but it gives the idea of how this works.

You can also use the scaling trick in reverse to improve Smudge quality. If you scale the input before Smudge to 200%, Smudge and then shrink it to 50% afterwards, you get 4X the amount of detail (and it takes 4X as long to render...). Note that the enlarged intermediate image can go outside the image bounds no problem, as the Smudge is calculated based on the final image bounds, if that makes sense.

I guess this 3D bomber test belongs here...

Very cool experiments ThreeDee! Good thing the teapot is empty or there would be tea all over the place smile:)

Need something to pour that tea into.

Here's my first (somewhat) successful attempt at carving out a shape from inside the object:

This + the 'Wireframe and faceted constructions' = very cool! Any chance of adding 3d parametric equations to the mix? smile:D

Oh sweet, Threedee! Looks great for a first attempt! smile:D
I still have that unfinished Geode filter lying around, where I failed on hollowing out the inside part lol. smile:-)
