I still haven't been back into my Bryce program to make that water pic. Maybe I'll just make more noise instead.

it's really too bad the kaleidoscope only has one green input

ok, here's a new one for you, dilla. this one is using some of the same noise procedures as my new snow covered land filter. but, i take it another direction. this one is called streambed. it's not quite as much about noise, but it's in there

You guys got me curious about the contrast between noise and symmetry and I ended up making a quick filter.
It's perlin noise that doesn't use the kaleidoscope component, but does mirror the left and right sides. It also uses a modified uberzev's spherify/unspherify distortion filter (inspired by Byro) for an extra dimension of warp. I'm too lazy to post any images so I'll just post the filter. (Like most of my experiments, I'm not sure if I'll ever get around to submitting it to the library though.) spherical symmetry noise.ffxml |

Here is a pic I made using Craig's snow covered ground. All the snow areas and rocks are from the filter. The crappy falling snow is just from a free filter I used in psp.

oh, that's excellent, ahimsa! VERY well done!! you've got just the right scale on it. love the deer and trees and water! excellent! and i love how you used the rocks to border the water! boy, that really made my day!!

Your texture made that rock border on it's own. I was very happy with that result too. Glad you like it. This one was done in Bryce, the sci-fi one I did for jffe was done in Poser. You can see the difference as Poser has a better render machine, but I still find working in Bryce a lot more fun and much easier.
The water is too deep for you to see your rocks as well as I would have liked, but they are there. ![]() Here is the full size version. http://www.3dcommune.com/3d/galview.m...1190198649 |

Well, that can be a good thing.....I'm always screwing things up by going at warp speed.....posting sample pics in the wrong filters.....and things like that

Dilla I know your the last person who needs anymore highs so this is more a principle point - my 12 Grunge Fx has recently gone HU and as you know an integral part of the filter is your Noise Lab Scratches but the flow on for usage doesn't happen as with Rons Zoom and Crop which I used in another filter - I know this subject has been brought up before but as far as I can see no resolution has occurred where I think it's only far something is done

It just seem fair if the snippet creators benefit as I have benefited from there hard work - for example without your scratches the filter wouldn't have that extra punch which I'm sure pushed it beyond average usage, but I'm probably thinking more about people like Ron and others who have only a few Hu's where everything you produce goes high so a few snippet highs is neither here nor there to you [ unless your going for that wide screen TV lol] anyway I know it's not up to you but you are listen too and taken seriously - do you have any thoughts on the subject

dilla, here's some more examples. i resurrected an old, unfinished filter and noticed it had 3 perlins in it and one was plugged into another in the roughness slot. so, i stripped some of the junk out of this and came up with these:

I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade, but I still only see perlin rather than a real world surface...

bah! someone's raining on my parade!
and yes, all you see is perlin because that's all i used. you'd better define 'real world' because i'm getting some very 'real world' with perlin. if you mean man made real world, then i'd agree... mostly. but what i'm discovering now is that that may not be true any more too. (bear in mind that so far this post is being done in mock anger mode ![]() take a look at that last one, dilla, my last one. to me, that looks a lot like shredded metal sitting on the ground. and it really does look pretty real world to me. i was totally impressed with this. and moreover, i'm now able to completely change the form of an image with just one setting in the lighting environment or even one single color change. i'm not just changing the lighting or color, i'm changing the very form of the image. to me, that is something remarkable. i'm not talking about the changes i made in those white ones by changing the size, pixels setting; i'm talking about with by only changing the hdri environment type, like forest, churce, etc, i can change the entire shape and form of the image. and to me, that's a rather startling discovery and puts a whole new slant on hdri's. ok, i'm getting tired of typing 'lighting environment' so i'm just going to use LE from here on in. i have a number of custom LE's. i can take the same exact settings on an effect and by just changing the LE i can get not just a new lighting on that effect and image, but a whole new image/effect. every new LE i click on gives me an entirely different image, new form, shape, etc. that just changes everything for me! i'll try to remember to post some examples later on. but, to get more in tune with what i think you're saying is, yes, this shld also work on worley's and combinations and make a much better range of filters. frankly, i think we've only tapped maybe 10% of the potential of FF and that this whole subject could open up a whole new range of items heretofore not seen or even seen as possible. i'm quite excited about it and i'm switching focus. i was fairly tired when i discovered this last night, but i made a number of presets before i went to bed. one after the other when i clicked on randomization, i was getting some pretty incredible looks. again, i'll probably post some more later on. i want to play with this more and maybe try out some other combos. but this is hot! and i thank you ![]() If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

oh, and one other thing, the same is true about completely changing the image by simply moving the LE sphere around. this also works to completely change the image!
