would it be possible to create a filter for custom tone mapping with FF3? i'd be very interested into reinhard tone mapping, as there is no known plugin for PS which does it...

You might be able to write a Lua script. Otherwise nope.
High pass can simulate a mediocre HDRI effect if your desperate. |

The more I read the paper, the more it gets clear how hard it is to do it. D: Paper discusses FFT implementation which is something that FilterForge LUA currently can't do (as I'm pretty sure of.) Just based on the structure here.

Hello, I have tried to read the PDF but really do not understand much, and I do not know what is the difference between this Reinhard Tone mapping and others tone mappings
I have Searched google as shown here and found also this other article about this A Closer Look At Tone Mapping ANd also this plugin for this Reinhard HDR Tonemapping Plugin for HDR Shop While I do not know really what are you looking for I can possibly recommend some good software for very good HDR Tone Mapping HDR EFEX 2 - NikSoftware.com - NEW IN JULY 2012 HDR ENGINE - OLONEO.COM - NEW IN 2011 PHOTOMATRIX PRO 4.2 - HDRSOFT.com - NEW APRIL 2012 Also Perfect Effects 3 from OnOneSoftware has some very good and nice HDR effects that work very well The Oloneo software is different to others as they have different ways to use HDR and includes interesting things |

i did post here because interested into getting a PS plugin solution. there are lots of other solutions on the market which can be used in general for tone mapping, and which i know as well... the closest thing i could find was the photomatix tone mapping plugin, but apart one older pixel bender script (unfortunately, pixel bender is discontinued as of PS CS6) i've not found any solution with reinhard mapping.
btw. i'm not using this for photographic generated HDRI but for adjusting results of 3d renderings. cheers markus www.3dworks.com

And what is the main difference of the reinhard tone mapping versus any other tone mapping options ?
I mean why are you interested in this one and what advantages and features have this one that you find it more interesting ? |

because basically it keeps the image looking natural (without halo's, exaggerated saturation etc) while adapting the dynamic range, which is not always the case with other operators. have a a look here for examples:

Take a look at Adobe Lightroom 4 3dworks. It has some nifty HDR type abilities.
