Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum, as well as to Filter Forge itself (just been messing around with the trial for last 10 days or so). I'm still at the stage of figuring out what are its possibilities and whether it will suit my needs or not. I'm wondering if it's possible to create irregular patterns like many stone walls or pavements etc.. Not totally random, like the Stone Noise component, but still with certain level of randomness in the structure. A few examples: mosaic stone wall Another stone wall Leaf close up I tried mixing different Tile, Pavement and Brick components but with a limited success. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks! |

Hello and welcome!
You're on the right track using tile, pavement, or brick components ![]() Example FFXML file shows you the basic idea. I don't know if that will solve all of your problems, but it seems like that's what you're looking for. Basically I have two tile pavement or brick components. The first one creates the initial pattern, then the second one processes it by having the fill mode set to "jumble" which shuffles the image. Hope this helps. Random Walls.ffxml |

Hi Skybase,
Thanks for that- that's plain simple, but I haven't thought about it! Instead I was creating a network of dozen or so nodes, offseting stuff and blending together etc... Not sure if it solves ALL of my problems, but it definitely opens a door to a lot of new possibilities. I'll keep playing around anyway. -- BTW. another thing I thought is that it would be good to have is a hexagonal and radial patterns components. I know that these sort of patterns are possible with Kaleidoscope and some other transforms, but we don't have the same control. For example Kaleidoscope eliminates all the variety we get with all the tiles and bricks. And the radial transforms are always a bit cumbersome and sometimes destructive to the part of the image. Anyway - so far there's still some stuff for me to discover. Going back to FF now... ![]() |
