Maybe this is very easy and already know to many FF users that do already professional works in 3D, but I have just discovered that I think you can use Filter Forge (FF) for making smooth 3D Greeble created with AO and normal maps to give that look to a 3D shape surface inside an external 3D software compatible
My inspiration and idea came fr om this Greeble texture I have found here and that looks very much like a FF filter result with AO map, Normal map and Height Map (or bump map) Greeble Texture example made in FF style Surely something like can be done with filter forge although I have to know what element to use to be able to get that very complex look One filter I have found is Robots Circuits by cfree68 wh ere the AO map looks like this ![]() Although is not the same and just only roughly similar Another one is the well done Greeble Glass by IgnisSerpentus ![]() But also this is not similar to the one shown on the first link Anyone knows if something more similar to the first example could be available in the FF library, or should I try to make it myself? I have seen lots of the Techno filters but are not like this one on first example or even similar but worth a look too SteamPunk_Material_Factory by cfree68 ![]() Shiphull Makro Detail by GameForger ![]() REAL GREEBLE 3D My intention is not to create real 3D Greeble as shown on this Google search for "Greeble plugin" because as far as I know you can´t do this with AO and normal maps alone and you a specific 3D plugin Thanks for any help |

I think there are not other filters really similar to Robots Circuits by cfree68, at least for what I can remember.
As you also surely thought, a way could be creating the right shapes, using them as particles in one or more Bombers, then blending them with a nice tech background. But the filter would also be slow. |

Sorry, No, I may have explained wrong, I do NOT want any filter similar to the Robots Circuit, what I want to know if there could be any filter similar to the FIRST link example I have put above, I mean to this one shown in this link below Greeble example of I want to make with FF The FF filters I have put are the ones I have found that may be roughly similar, but not quite the same. |

Time to diy!
[Edit] Ok jokes aside in all seriousness I think it's like pretty much a matter of stacking layers of stuff up. The rest starts becoming a matter of either accepting the noise pattern / whatever pattern you make as a final piece or you consider manually building bits and pieces up. Personally, I'd manually deal with specific pieces. I'd make a modular set of greebler parts in programs like Modo, Blender, Maya... then export normals out and use that like a stamp on a large canvas to fill the space up. PERSONALLY manual effort does look nicer, generally more thoughtful, and less like a over-kill procedural texture. It's just more considerable as a professional-looking texture. But considering the interest, I'd probably give it a shot if somebody's willing to kickstart the thread with their own work. ![]() |
