Hello, I have been trying to make myself a complex grid, where the grid has a variable size, and uses 3 different grids that are rotaed to match specific points, please see below the attached image that I have made for planning the grid

I started it thanks to Rick Duim that have kindly and helpfully made a very good grid filter using the new Pixel Awarness that he shared it and is available on this other thread here

The problem is that the example shown only makes straight grids, I mean that the grid is only made with vertical and horizontal lines

I have tried to rotate the grid, and is not possible, at least the usual way, I will upload later the filter I already have done

I have seen that you can´t use with the result of pixel awareness any of these components

Any transform components (Flip, Offset, Rotate, Scale)
Kaleidoscope
Bomber and Bomber +
Noise distortion

It seems that it does not work with any component that will try to modify the pixels positions

How would be possible to make a rotated grid then?

And also I do not see any way to modify the thickness of the grid lines, and having it with 1 pixel is too narrow and difficult to see

You will be able to see a more advanced version of Pixel Grid in a day or 2. I will release it officially, probably as a snippet. Just taking the pixel awareness a bit further. Then you can look at how I did it and ask questions if you wish.

Maybe I should wait to see what Rick is able to do and if he maybe solves this about the rotating of the grids and adding variable thickness

Thanks for any possible help and sorry for putting multiple threads about the same topic

I'm pretty sure due to the way Pixel Awareness works in FilterForge, you can't use transformations on it. There may be other ways around it though which I can look into. (i.e. math and combining pixel xy coords in some way). But no promises.

Also, if you're required to output precision grids, lines, etc that have specific measurements, don't use FilterForge. Use Illustrator or other vector art tools with measurement utilities provided you'll be always guaranteed the exact measurements which FF maybe able to accomplish but at a huge cost of time, effort, and lots of head scratching.

Hello, Skybase, I agree with you, that considering how it may be developed, it may not allow any kind of transform, thanks for trying to find a possible way from what it seems to be an expert like you

I have already done it already the above grid in a Vector program and have made it correctly with the exact measurements, but of course in a vector program you can not use bitmap images and photos to fill the grid. and using Photoshop is not good either as I have tried it also, so this is why that now I am trying to do it with Filter Forge

as far as I know you can not import in FF an external made black and white grid bitmap with alpha channel and fill the grid with photo bits, i have seen that this was already asked in the forum and the answer was that it was not possible or it was very complicated

So this is why I was trying to build it inside FF

ThreeDee Pixel based line drawing scrippet

i forgot to tell before that as you can not seem to be able to rotate the pixel awarness grid, I have tested and used with good result the ThreeDee Pixel Based line drawing filter and you can define easily the start and end points and draw the line and modify the thickness and color

BUT the problem is that it is only able to do ONE line and it seems that you can not use offset to duplicate and make other multiple parallel lines and this is why also I have made the grid above in different color lines to be able to use this from ThreeDee

how would be possible to duplicate the created line multiple times in a effective way that does not slow down FF

Will put later the example Filter showing how I have done this and that it seems that you can only draw just only one line and do not know how

Convert Centimeters to pixels

In the above drawing I have put all the.measurement are made in centimeters, and here I have found a way to convert them into pixels sizes

Here is a filter similar to one that should be released on Monday. This one actually is a proof of concept showing that diagonal grids can be generated from pixel awareness. Thie only allows equal size grids and 45 degree angles. But it is a start.

Thanks Rick Duim, but rotating them only 45 degrees is not enough as what I need are rhombus, but I agree that as you said it is a start

I told that I would put here the filter I have been making myself using as base the Rick Duim pixel based grid and using ThreeDee Pixel Based Line drawing for the rotated lines and here is a first draft version that is not yet finished and still needs:

1 - Make the lines longer so they cover the whole space and is not cut as it is shown now

2 - to be adjusted and correctly mix the lines so all the 3 grids match perfectly,

but is a start and showing how I have done it, and that it seems to work, as you can define and put the rotated lines in any angle.

I know that maybe the way I have done it may be possibly wrong and is not the best efficient one and is slow to draw, but I do not know any other better way.

And here is the filter that I have done

if anyone knows a better way to do it is welcome

thanks for any help

This seems to be interesting and cool grid and good idea, although I can not help you as I do not know how to use the new pixel based components

But seeing the grid you have put, I have seen something similar some time ago that was made with hexagons, they call it "connected triangles formed into hexagonal geometric grid" shown here

And the example image below although I know that is not a square grid as yours, but maybe could help in some way and it may be easier to draw than the square one

Maybe this ancient Seamless Tile Rotator filter gives you some ideas?

It's not tied to pixel size, though.

Not the easiest way to do this, but it works.

WOW!! Thanks very much ThreeDee for taking the time for making a filter that looks very good and seems to be interesting and well done, will see how can I use it.
