Light Rays Through Text

Hi everyone,

I've been working with text effects and was wondering if someone could create a text effect that creates rays of light through text and still retain the alpha background, creating rays like in this image of trees with rays of light coming through.

My idea is that maybe there is some way to move the light around within the text and have the rays point up or down or sideways out of the text.

Can someone help me with such a filter?
