I can't seem to figure how to do this in a filter...
Let's say we have a picture that is totally desaturated in some parts and has color in other parts. Is there a way to extract all the colored parts from the image and cause the rest to be transparent? I'll post a filter to try to show what I'd like: The Selector on 1 shows an example image. The Selector on 2 shows what I'm trying to get (where the background is tranparent). The Selector on 3 also shows what I want but without the gray. coloralpha.ffxml |

Try this...
(note that the three channel modes each produce slightly different results) extract color.ffxml |

Thanks, uberzev.
![]() That's pretty much the closest I've seen to what I want. And HSY's S extraction did pretty good at loosing the luminosity info. I made another filter to compare them to my frame image. It's selector 2 -- that is the "goal" image effect I was trying to get (of just making the desaturation info invisible). Selectors 3 through 5 use your methods. Then 6 through 8 is where I tried to improve them, but I'm not sure... Anyway, thanks for the help! coloralpha2.ffxml |

P.S. I'm thinking I'd probably use this type of stuff with the color blend mode anyway, and am noticing this saturation channel idea seems to look pretty okay for me.

The color blend mode isn't ideal IMO as it messses with luminosity as well. Try one of the assemble components.

Thanks for the idea. (It's got me wondering about some experiments I'll have to explore...)
