Hello to everybody,
I am creating new variants of existing filters. Can I use these variations for commercial purposes? Can I sell these filters on my own? What copyright do the database filters have? Are there any restrictions for the use of existing filters? Is there somewhere where these rights can be consulted? Many questions but I think it is necessary to know. Thank you in advance for answers |

Mostly yes answers. Selling filters you didn't write is questionable...
Here are the Terms of Use.. If I submit the filter to Filter Forge I am giving them the right to offer it in their public library forever, but it is still technically my filter. You can Search the forums for "commercial use" to see more discussions on the topic. Math meets art meets psychedelia. |

Easily thinking, you can use a filter to generate a texture or an effect on a picture of your choice, but you shouldn't sell the filters themselves.
When you make a filter, you include part of the Filter Forge program. Even you create your own filters starting from zero, the truth is that you don't really start from zero. You use components that are part of Filter Forge, and that's why the filter can only be used in combination with Filter Forge. Instead, if you use the filters to generate a texture or you apply an effect on a picture, the result that you obtain doesn't include anything of the original program. Then you can do what you want, even sell it. |

Piress, welcome to the forums!
I confirm Rachel Duim and Ramlyn are correct. In addition you can take a look at the Upload License Agreement, it is different from the general ToS. Run FF, select any filter and click Filter > Submit To Library: the submit wizard will ask you to accept the Upload License Agreement. |

Thank you all very much for being able to clear up some doubts, now everything is clearer.
Just one more question, let's talk about physical things and not digital. Imagine that with a existing filter I create a texture playing with modifiers and then I print it on a special paper, wood, metal or any other type of material, can I sell that print? I haven't been able to find anything about it in the terms of use. Just to know if anyone has encountered a similar case. Thank you again Regards |

The original digital image that you create with the filter is your own work. Then it doesn't make any difference if you use it as it is, or if you print on paper, wood or other material. You can sell it too.
