For example, say you want to incorporate a Polar Coordinates effect into one of your filters. Instead of using byRo's "Spherify" you should use "Spherify & Un-Spherify uberEDITION".

Why you ask? Well these new versions have been updated for better performance and less internal complexity. The old versions are also likely to contain obsolete components.

Now I realize this may sound selfish since I'm the main guy making these but bear with me. byRo/Quasimondo have had some brilliant techniques that have since been updated by myself (and others). I'm not trying to take credit for their work.

Again I want to emphasize that the original snippet authors should receive the accolades, but when it comes to what you incorporate in your NEW filters you should go with the most updated version of that effect.

Maybe an Article on the new wiki would be the best way to emphasize what the current best versions are. (Assuming the majority can agree) smile;)

I think explaining snippers on Wiki is also a good thing -- plus it gives snippets more visibility. Ideally, every snippet would have a corresponding article on Wiki explaining the idea, possible uses and benefits, and limitations. The article would have a link to the Library page of the snippet.

uber,

the problem with what you're suggesting is, for me, familiarity. i dont know what supplants what. when i want a snippet, i just start roaming around and grab the first thing i find that looks feasible/plausible/workable. i'm just not versed in what came before or after another snippet.

it would be great to have just a simple index of snippets and a small blurb on what each does and if one supplants another. vlad's idea is good too, a more in depth breakdown of what's what. but for me, i've been around since almost day one and seen many of these when they came out but dont use any one of them often enough to remember where it is, what it is, or what might take the place of another. as a for instance, i'm currently in need of the rotate image routine. i'll find it or find one, but i've no idea if there is an upgraded version or not. actually, what i need is to rotate a profile gradient thumb/preview, but all i can currently do is rotate the gradient and not the whole thumb/preview. so, some sort of quick reference guide would be great. this is part of the reason why i'd love to be able to have more user made folders in the gui also... so i can organize and find things.

Well as a known user of snippets past...I give a +.75....Maybe I sparked this thread..
But some of the old snippets in my opinon still have a bit of quality to them. In the case of "Spherify" it is a much different snippet to work with between the versions...
Maybe its to do with the Blends don't know..
Each one does the same thing but for some reason they look different and react different when using them inside other filters.
Even updating components changes the look slightly to where the result just does not look good..

But the overall snippets yep newer is better.

Actually version3 of the Angle Grad works good in byros "Spherify".
