I've noticed that a lot of filter forgers have interesting styles of structuring their filters and was wondering if anyone else has any particular habits or tendencies when laying out their components.
In my case, I am quite OCD about having connector lines lines aligned with each other, particularly perfectly vertically and only in extreme cases do I have a input component connectors go backwards. Actually, the whole line up thing I do is counter productive, because it makes it hard to tell which slot on the line goes where, but I do it anyway and I'm assuming it's because of trauma from cleaning up too many sketches where the lines have to be crisp and simplified, ahahaha. Does anyone else have habits like this? ~^_^~ Oh, attached should be an example of my habit, ahahahah. Oh yeah, as a side note, about 90% of my filters look like a gun or a sword to me, go figure! ![]() -Zephos |

My habits usually result in very wide filers. I avoid crossing lines at all costs.
When I open a filter by anyone else here I usually have to spend a few minutes rearanging things before I can begin to sort things out. |

As a general rule, I tend to avoid building spaghetti-like jumbles and mass-gatherings of the closely-crowded kind at all costs. They are my greatest nightmare! Since we have an infinite workspace at our disposal, why not use that space to organize things at a relaxed distance to eachother. Living filters need space so that components can breathe!
![]() My number one priority for the component layout is making the 'functional units' of a filter and the flow of data between them as clearly identifiable and traceable as possible. 'Space in-between' makes spontaneous re-configurations of filter parts easier (which happens a lot during my mad filter building sessions), and a visually clear layout allows for care-free maintenance since I don't have to spend lots of time deciphering my filters when opening them after a long time. --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |

i'm more like dilla and uber in this respect. i dont like to cross lines (though, it's unavoidable at times) and i like to be able to easily trace legs and trees to see how one thing got where it got.
but, when i'm on a pure, no definite purpose in mind, out and out CREATE, i throw all that out the window and just put anything, anywhere. this is mostly true when i'm doing a large, multi-filter. some of those are the most jumbled messes you'd never want to see ![]() If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!
