As some of you know, I have been working on glass filters lately.....alot of them. Some similar types could be combined on a switch.....but the controls would be a mile long.....
My personal opinion, as a maker and user, is that I like having simplified controls all on one page without having to scroll between anything. Further, it is a nightmare to zero in on effects thru randomization with alot of controls....especially without the ability to lock controls in ramdomization. Finally, I want advanced control over effects, but I would rather have the filter broken up into separate filters to help me quickly get to exactly what I want without having to spend all of my time digging it out of a control-laiden filter.
The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of putting all similar filter variations as options under one filter. For example, I would have one filter entitled "Metallics" and have access to all my other metal and chrome filters from inside that one filter.....and the same for all my solor filters and so on.....
I think that grouping similar filters under one filter by author (at least in the library) would totally clean up the filter library while making it much easier for users to find exactly what they are looking for....
I would like to hear other people's opinions on this subject..... Steve

Not sure, I'm no great organizer, so tough to say. At some point FF, will need to change (again) the filter library layout, but I'm really leaving that up to them, so yeah, this is like a non-post, it isn't good or bad, it's just a placeholder til someone with an opinion comes along ha-ha.

It's too gray for me to have a firm opinion. I like simplicity -- especially when I first try out a filter, but when I'm familiar with what's going on, I want to have the most control (but by this point I can modify the filter to how I want it).
One, idea, StevieJ, might be to make both a meta-filter and separate sub-filters (where I don't see the cluttering of the library as much of a problem).
With your filters, I do get confused on what the differences are between similar filters, so I don't really know which one I might want to use for a certain look. (But if they were all in one filter, I'd probably get confused too -- so it may just be shifting the confusion around.) It might be helpful in your filters' descriptions, if you mentioned how one was different from another similar one (e.g. this filter is softer than my filter X and uses a sine curve instead of a triangle... etc.) But then again, it might be better to just see the differences from the presets with the title hinting at it's differences.
I guess I don't really know how I'd go about it, but thought I'd mention some feedback that even with the separate simple filters, there's still some confusion for me (on picking between them).

Thanx for pointing that out to me If you are confused, then others are too.....so I'll try to remedy that problem..... Steve

to me, i download the entire library and not just select filters. so, the problem here isnt so much with the library, but with FF itself in trying to organize and find things in FF. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

That's the main reason why I mentioned it......to clean up and make it much easier to find things in the library.....like for example, taking all of Joe Blow's texture filters and putting access to them all through one filter filter entitled "Textures" by Joe Blow.....
Maybe advanced search options by author, filter, and type would help..... Steve

Just out of curiosity why do you want to down load entire library isn't it easer to find what you want in the library rather than the smaller preview no search ff gui ............. Carl

Hi Stevie,
I'd like a folder layout for the program to personalize content. Once I download, make filters or use friends filters I'd like to be able to organize them that the current program doesn't yet support. Vlad seems pretty busy though so he must be working hard on the filter.
Who knows we might see something like that yet. I don't know if my post counts as a valid opionin, LOL, just thinking outloud.
And if you like more then one filter for that user which is mostly the case,,, the library could have a check box and instead of downloading each filter one by one,,, all the checked filters would download at one time from that users page (All filters by).

carl, i just like having them all on my computer instead of on a remote computer somewhere. if i work offline, i've got them all here. if the website goes down, i've got them all here. if my computer breaks and i lose all the filters, i've got them backed up here and dont have to download over 2000 filters again, or even just ones i want. i just like the idea that they're mine! .... ALL MINE! If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Yeah, this has been mentioned alot.....and probably will happen sometime in future FF versions.....
I haven't tried it yet, but I was wondering if you could just create folders in the 'My Filters' folder through explorer. I was thinking that this may not work because FF might be set up (registry wise) to recognize only the default folders......

This one has been mentioned too.....I believe that it has been formalized in the Feature Wishlist Wiki...... Steve

Diabolic~ I love it~ BruuuHahhaha.
Your right; propably wouldn't work- but I like the way your mind works.
((Kreallin)),
Totally understand. I like having everything I need for off line. Take yesterday for example- I lost Internet connection and didn't hinder me one bit in making graphics. It's very important to have everything offline and ready just in case.

Just tried it and will not recognize additional folders.....registry set up to only recognize FF structure and filter files within that structure.....Oh well, worth a try

tried it months ago. FF wont crash, but the created folders wont show either. i'd be elated if this has changed, but i think we would have been informed if it had. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Craig, this one
The 'catagorized filter hub by author' idea is looking better and better with the growing number of filters in the library, eh??? Steve
