I was going to upload this as a snippet but if there is an easier or better way then I don’t want to.

The idea is that this can reduce the number of controls on some filters by allowing variation to make the color selection when one of two colors is always needed.

To use it just slide the variations slider to see the color change randomly from one color to the next. Or repeatedly click on the next variant button.

Let me know if this will be useful and I will upload it.

Thanks,
Ron

smile:) MMMM - hi ron interesting idea, I think you would have more control swapping between 2 colour if you use the checkbox on the switch - by using the internal colour system within the switch they won't changed to another colour the same as your snippet performs you can just check the box or you can plugin 2 colour into the switch allowing operator choice, with your snippet hitting random can cause it to turn up the same colour a number of times with out changing it while obviously changing the design .......... just saying it as I see it other may totally disagree smile:)

I cannot talk about it now because I’m afraid I will jinx it but wait until my next filter comes out and you will see how useful it is. smile;)
Still, I'n not saying thers's a better way.

Thanks for the feedback.

BTW, when you say "use the checkbox on the siwtch" would the user see the checkbox?

I think so by hitting random it still can turn the switch off and on / the check box could say "Blue or Green" and as I say it's just my opion smile:)

It was completely inspired by your rework of the suds and bubbles filter. All I will say is that it is my first texture. smile8)

Here is another more interesting version. This is a similar, but simplified, to how I am using it now. This configuration is very useful when used in conjunction with the elevation gradient as a way to randomly distribute blotches of colors within a narrow range to areas of similar height. To try this, open the filter and start clicking on variations. Notice how sometimes blue will be on the left and sometimes it will be on the right and at other times it will be all blue or no blue. This is very useful behavior – although admittedly not in this application but I think you can see what I mean. smile:D

Since I have started doing a texture I noticed that one of the characteristics of the stone type of texture is that it often occurs in narrow ranges of two colors. At a macro level you can see that here:

just by browsing the images.
Or at normal leve. here:

Because of my aversion to searching the FF gallery I have not checked to see if that relation ship holds but I suspect it does. Anyway I was looking for a way to make two narrow ranges of colors available to the filter user without burdening them with two color controls that break out the entire color cone – in some cases, IMHO, the full cone can be distracting causing the filter to loose focus. Since this is my first texture my attitudes in this regard is subject to change. smile:|

Those first set of satellite pic are fantastic and the colours are amazing I tend to think if you did a satellite filter the colour would look fake. The second set are interesting rock textures I had to laugh that they included abolone which is a shellfish LOL

LOL I don't know whether you noticed my gold rush filter that was my first shot at rock texture where I tryed to get an extreme difference in colour and a mat and gloss separation, like you I've been discovering textures a bit lately so I look forward to what you come up with smile;) smile:) smile:)
