I recently came upon a rather interesting technique to create a wind blur (which has often been requested).
This is what it looks like on a selection... ![]() --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |

Obviously, the problem is the number of 'samples' from the selection area that get blended along the blur direction. With longer blur lengths these become very visible...
The filter currently 'supports' 24 samples only, as I was too lazy to build in more. ![]() --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |

The 'sampling' visible at higher blur lengths...

Crapadilla, I wanted to see how it worked, because Blur is another effect I use in EyeCandy. If I can work with this I'd be eliminating yet another reason to work outside of FF. What do you think of your Wind Blur's use in my meager attempt?

I'm going to submit it eventually, just wanted you guys to take a look into it first. The filter needs a little polishing, and I need to build in more 'sample' layers. Also, as you might have noticed, the filter doesn't use any blur components at all. It's certainly a good approximation of a true wind blur, but I'm somewhat dissatisfied with the way it just blends over the original image without any true blurring taking place. This needs to be looked at, and any suggestions are most welcome. --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |

I like it as-is. It catches the lead edge cleanly.....and I think the blend over the image actually appears to work nicely without any blurring.....retaining clarity.....but that's just me

No comments on how my little sample looks using the filter
![]() Good, bad, indifferent... just want to know if anyone cared that I wanted to be a tiny bit helpful or anything by now. (oh Jan... stop begging...) ![]() ~Foxxee~

it looks good, foxxee. just one thing, i think the blur is a bit overdone, elongated for horse racing. auto racing maybe, but i dont think the blur would be that pronouned on the slower horses. otherwise, very good. and 'jan' is it? good! hi jan ![]() If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Yes, now that I see it compared to cars dragging down the raceway I can understand what you've noticed. Horses usually run about 30 mph, pretty slow compared to a race car...or even an old jalopy for that matter, hehe. Can't see that kind of a wind blur on granny's automobile coming back from the corner store ![]() Thanks for commenting Craig ![]() Oh! umm... I thought I typed Foxxee ![]() Oh well.. heh ~Foxxee~

I just might have figured out a way to 'solve' the problem: I'll just blur it away!
