I think this can be a useful thread. I'll kick off with two the things I do a lot when creating filters.

Select Subtree to clean up
When you finish a filter there's always some loose ends that get left behind (especially with complicated filters). To get rid of all the loose components you right-click the Result-component and from the appearing menu click 'Select Subtree'. Then zoom out and move the entire selection way over to somewhere else. You'll see all the loose ends get left behind and you can savely delete those.

Finetune adjustments by using a maximum and minimum Threshold
When applying adjustments like Brightness or Contrast it's always hard to see when the images starts clipping ( = large patches of black or white). You can see the clipping if you attach two Threshold components to that result. One with zero threshold and one with 100 threshold (and no smoothing of course). Now you can easily adjust your Brightness or Contrast and throw away the Thresholds when you're done.

Tweak your control remap by first setting the control to maximum and backing off on the remap until you get the desired value then set the control to zero and repeat for minimum.

Reversing the positions of the control remapping will reverse the control making it easy to label the controls consistently making it easier for the users.

Well, I searched for a 'tips and tricks' thread but couldn't find it. Maybe I didn't search hard enough.

Hey cool. Well maybe it would be a good thing to gather all these into a wiki-page. Oh wait, it seems there already is a stub called 'Secrets of the Pros' (under 'Requested Articles'). I'll go try to fill it in (with my limited wiki knowledge).
Is 'secrets of the pros' a good enough title then? Since a lot of the hints in those threads are not really pro-knowledge. I'd prefer a page title like 'hints' or 'tips and tricks', it covers the load a bit more.

I've accumulated the threads into the wiki. Still need to check all individual hints: I've already left some out that didn't work.
Then all hints should be categorized, anybody got any ideas on that?
And off course everything should be checked on correct language. I already noticed one idiot who never starts his sentence with a capital ;-p
Also, some hints might still have the word 'I' in it. All I's must go.
And words like 'stuff' and stuff look a bit stupid too.
I'd appreciate it if some native English speaking person would go over it. I might miss some spelling- grammatical errors.

...

Argh... @#$%& wiki!!!
When you put in multiple headers it somehow makes it into multiple pages. Is there an easy way to swap/re-order them?
And how come some of these pages have indices on top! Is that also a feature or do you have to put unordered lists with anchor links in yourself?

it would be nice to have a 'hints, tips, and tricks' item on the main page. but, i'm afraid i know nothing of writing to wiki.

hehe, capital letters are highly over-used smile;)

I know nothing of writing wiki either. But I just did so it really isn't that hard. There is a help in the wiki.

I've now put the 'Hints, tips, and tricks' on the front page.

So if anybody has anymore hints, tips or tricks, feel free to add them to the Hints, tips and tricks page in the wiki.
