Hi
I've bought filterForge specifically creating Normal, specular, diffuse and bump maps. I'm confused! Can anybody please tell me how I create a normal map from an existing image I have? Thanks Wayne |

At the top left of the main FF program screen, go to *Filter*, scroll down to *Render Maps*, and select which one you want there. Just running an already made 3-D picture through FF to get the bump map or whatever, is maybe not going to work quite like you want. If the texture/3-D part isn't made with FF, then it's probably not going to be able to read and output it for you eh.

If it helps, I made a simple filter that takes a regular bump map and turns it into a normal map. I use this all the time. Might be useful. I've attached it.

Ok ... I'm really new to this software... Ive read the help file, but still I'm having trouble. How do I actually get the file you have attached into FF? When I go to file all the options are greyed out! no matter what I select Building, misc, Organic...etc.
Are there any tutorials anywhere on how to create filters, apply then to images and save them? It cant be this hard? cheers Wayne |

Ok. Yeah, not that hard when you get a grip on it. To load the filter I uploaded:
a) Go to any filter that you have in filter forge (if you have none, just create a new one). b) Right-mouse click on it and go to "locate file". c) This will open a folder in explorer. Put the file I gave you in that same folder. d) Restart filter forge and you should then see the filter in there. In terms of learning filter forge, I found the best way is to study how other people have put filters together. Good luck. rikard |

If File options are greyed out, chances are that you're working from Photoshop (or any other supported host). Filter Forge supports operation only on one image, so if you launch it from Photoshop, the subject image is the target one.
Please note, that if you would like a response in a timely fasion, you should use the contact form -- forum is not treated as an "official" support channel, which means that there is no guarantee getting a response from an FF person here ![]() |
