This is way beyond my FF skills, so I'll just throw it out there, in case anyone feels like solving a puzzle.
How would one go about creating a semi random but symmetrical patterns such as those found on a lot of paisley patterned cloths? here's a sampling of the way they look: http://images.search.yahoo.com/search...b=19&ni=18 I was reading the other day about symmetry and math behind theese kinds of things, and seems like it *could* be possible. Actually doing it in FF is way over my head though. |

Don't use set number inputs for sizing maps.

I appreciate your tip here, I really really do, but this is still way over my head (for a little while) LOL, I'm at the level of hitting the randomize button.

When I get home I'll have to show you a pic of what I made so far... by copying and pasting parts of other filters (I hope that's okay to do)

----It's fine, we usually give shout-outs in the filter description to people we borrow bits from if we end up submitting the filter to the library, but it's fine. ----Some components have size inputs, but rather than just setting a number size, or even sticking a slider on them for adjustable sizes, try running another component into them, that's how you get variable sizes. Or, I use to just double or triple everything up with different internal settings, then blend it together for some more randomish looks, which can work just as well or better in some cases, but at the cost of longer render times. jffe Filter Forger |

I did something (going from meory here) where I took noise into one of the kalidoscope-like fiters, tiled it, skewed the tiles into diamonds, added a bit of gentle noise to it (not necessarily on that order), and came up with color channel. Then I made some fine vertical/horizontal noise in the height input to simulate cloth weave shadows. It's a start...
I left the opriginal filter name still on it, so it shouldn't be too hard to backtrack whose filter I borrowed from... LOL, when you step 5 feet a way and squint a little, it looks almost like cloth! |

connie,
shapes are not FF's forte...yet. we're hoping the version 2.xx will add these. in the meantime, study some of the shape type filters for ideas on how to get that paisley shape. it shld be possible. once you get one, you can re-size it, mirror it, repeat it and so on to get a pattern of them going. as to exactly how you might get that shape, i dont really know at this point. and if all else fails, you could always substitute in 'tie dye' ![]() If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Crapa did a yin-yang shape didn't he ? That's 3/4 of the way to *paisley* right there really.

yeah, i believe he did, jffe. not sure it's released in the library. it might be in the forums here somewhere, though.

Filter Geniuses would be about right
![]() okay, I've been saying I was going to post a screenshot of my paisley attempts. It doesn't *really* look like paisley, but it does look like something... Started by using Alhambra #G8-2 filter by Ghost IV, and changing a lot of things around. The textile Weave needs a lot more work before it looks like a textile (at least what I have for textile in my head) ![]() |

I'm sure someone could make a decent attempt at a paisley pattern in FF but it's really the wrong tool for stuff like this. You might be able to make some of the overall shapes but to include all the little dots and flourishes would make the filter ridiculously complex.

I hear ya, the little dots and things would make it complex (the construction of the filter, right?) It would have to be some sort of a math function, perhaps a modified chlotoid formula. I wonder if fractal generator wouldn't come in handy for that...
Anyway, I've been focused on textile design patterns lately, for 3D work I've been doing. If anyone happens to know of software or utilities that may be worth checking out, outside of FF, I'm all ears ![]() |
