I'm very new at creating filters, there are still many components that I don't know what they're used for exactly, how they affect what I do and I'm sure there's tons of things that I should probably do differently to have a more efficient filter... I've been working on one that I submitted this afternoon, I don't know if it will pass or not but there's something I would have liked to do with it and had no idea how. Here's a sample of the filter I made:

What I would have liked to do is make the "glass" transparent a little so that if it was applied over an image, the image would show through a bit, but leave the mortar opaque? I've seen some filters that do something somewhat like this, I've opened some of those in the filter editor to see how it's done, but ugh... there are so many components in there I couldn't figure out what did what... lol So I thought it might be easier to ask here... Is there a simple way to do this or am I trying to do something that may be a little bit too advanced for a gal who's only made a couple of filters so far? lol

Thanks in advance for any help! smile:)

Your best bet would be to grab a component earlier in your filter and attacking it with a threshold to define just the mortar in white. Then right before you blend the colorful image above with the photo you can "set-alpha" using the white mortar definition block and then put it all together in one blend.

Attach your filter and I'll show you what I mean.

"Control L" with the chosen filter open will take you to the location of its file. smile:)
at least 90 percent of all sensation is texture, even beyond the visual, with elements of noise, tone, gradients, interval and degree.

Take a look and learn how I used a switch to give the option of an image filter or not. I personally am drawn more to filters without that liferaft, so even if you have an option to do the picture visiblity, I would recommend setting default preset as the texture alone.
