I am trying to create the 7 types of human skin patterns. I have the patterns in photoshop from real skin...but small patches of skin. Can I sample my own textures of skin grain instead of using parlin noise...which is close... but not really realistic?

CF did made a sort of anything-to-seamless-tiler filter for FF recently, you might try that. There are some programs out there that would help you make seamless tiles of simple designs like skin though, and probably do a better job of it than FF.

suzzie, welcome to FF.
and no, you cant import samples, per se. you can import images to be worked on, but not as samples within the editor. maybe in a future version (it has been asked for). but, i'm a bit surprised no one has done a human skin filter. it shldnt be that hard to do. though, the tiny hairs might be a problem. all those hairs within the filter i'm sure would gum it all up ![]() If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Ditto on the hello.
Skin filter would be cool, with hair, freckles and skin tone/tan options. There's probably away to make the parlin noise and stuff work but it would most likely involve layers of gradient's and stuff... to get a more realistic effect. Probably counts us novices out ![]() Nothing wrong with a little insanity ;)

I am not exactly sure what you mean by "sample" in this case. However if you just mean can you use your own image the answer is sure.
If in doing so your challenge is to make it seamless or rather as much as possible then you can try using the "offset" filter under "other" at the bottom of your filters list in PS. Make sure the amount of offset is exactly half the size of your image. It is also highly reccomended that you either crop or resize your image to square dimensions before you begin. Once you have offset your image in PS, you will be able to see the edges that were previously on the exterior, now they will be across the center of your image in a vertical and horizontal lines. Then use the tools in PS to attempt to make your images line up, you can use the Pattern and/or close stamp tools to help do this, or some simple cut and paste. This can be a pretty tedious process so be forewarned. ![]() Once your done, run the offset filter again at the same dimension to put your image back in its original orientation. This also shows you how well you did, and you can repeat the process if you need to. From there you will at least have a fairly seamless base image to work with. Other machinations you perform in FF can help cover (or expose) the problems spots in it. at least 90 percent of all sensation is texture, even beyond the visual, with elements of noise, tone, gradients, interval and degree.

Made one, but I wouldn't dare submit it. It is even nastier than the pink slider filter. ![]() ![]() --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |

In that case I'd also have to rename it... to something like 'No Nipples Allowed', which would kind of ruin the filter. ![]() --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |
