Since my last couple of 'is this possible' questions seemed to create some interesting discussions and techniques, I thought I'd try another one.
So, do people hav any good techniques for creating the appearance of turbulent flows? That is Clouds, coriolis swirls, swirling fluids, things like that. I've noticed that in particular, cloud effects in the FF filters thus far have a perlin noise kind of look, which could look a lot better w/ some swirlification. Looking for something that could maybe swirl a source into something like this: Any ideas? ![]() |

Here's a nifty marbled paper filter which somewhat resembles a few of your examples: http://www.filterforge.com/filters/5475.html

noise distortion and perlin noise shld give you some of that.

My immediate idea would be to take the 'spiral' filter offset maps and run them through a perlin noise refraction or offset, then use that output as the offset maps for the image.

Thats what I was thinking there 3d...Fast Spiral would be good for this.
http://www.filterforge.com/filters/6027.html Swirls and Abstracts is one for strange swirls...Might be helpful... Also if you use maybe a scatter object filter on that swirl it might give some more control over it.... An awfully slow, overly complex and rather unelegant method. But at least it's got twirls.

No offense to anyone, like really no offense, but Sjeiti already did a cool colored swirls filter that you could probably tweak to get these looks.
![]() jffe P.S. Like the original example could probably be done by just adding some distortion to Sjeiti's filter is all I meant, not the many other google image examples of course. (Trying to not like offend anyone really, just saying a lot of the work of these looks has been done by an FF master already is all.) Filter Forger |

How's this? I took Sjeiti's vintage spiral wallpaper and made a few changes near the end. I added a control for step blur (to make it more like Corvus's original picture), repeat (the steps), and distortion/distortion scale controls. Vintage spiral swirl.ffxml |

Just to clarify: in the original post I'm looking for ways to take an image or input, and bend it into turbulence-like swirls. ie take something and swirl it. Not looking for just swirls their own. As jffe points out, there are lots of ways to do that.
Cool... It is pretty complicated. It looks good w/ the perlin noise background. If you put it
Hey, that's fun! |

Ah, that's more like it... Hmm...Maybe if we tried it to make it more symmetrical, and get rid of the checker effect. Here's a fun accidental outcome, which looks sort of mayan-architectural: ![]() |

Gotta love experimenting
![]() Well as far as the checker effect I tried out my seamless tile concept filter to get rid of that...Then a little blur on the final output before connecting to the distortion..Not quite fast at the start but....Heres a pict of that.. ![]() Stupid things happen to computers for stupid reasons at stupid times! |
