When you need a component to generate a solid color fill, please use a Color Control or any Assemble component.
Particularly, we don't recommend you use contrasted Noise for solid fills because the result will depend upon variation. An example would be the Frame filter submitted by Ken. If you set variation to 1 in this filter, the frame will disappear. I don't think this is intended behaviour ![]() |

Hi GMM.
Thank you for your comments. I used contrasted noise as it was the only way I could find to get round the squarised problem. I could not use a Color Control or any Assemble components because they ‘wrap round’ and would not give me the frame edge. Also I could not use gradients because they are square. Contrasted noise was the only way I could find to give a frame edge which extends the full length of a rectangular image. I did intend to update these when we get a ‘Bomber Rectangle’ but until then I cannot see another way to make rectangular frames. (Square frames are easy using gradients) If you can show us a better way I would be most interested. Ken. |

Hi Crapadilla.
Thanks, Yes I have tried that but using that code only makes a frame as big as the shortest side of the image and then it repeats. The only workaround I could find was to use contrasted noise as that is not squareified like the gradients are. I did update my method in Framed Patterned by Ken and Edges by Ken where only one side of the rectangle needs adjustment If the only downside of using perlin noise is that some variations make the frame disappear then I think this disadvantage is far outweighed by the advantage that the code works on rectangular images I discussed this problem with Vladimir Here and here So as soon as there is another method I will update them but in the meantime I think using Perlin noise is the best workaround. It would also help if we could find the original image size (or at least its orientation) from within FF Attached is a rectangular image in a rectangular frame using my Edges filter Ken. ![]() |

Hi.
GMM brought up a good point about variations; it was something I had not considered. I have been looking for a way to ‘lock’ it but this does not seem possible. There are some occasions where varying perlin noise will spoil the effect. For example my Human Skin filter where the settings are crucial to getting the correct effect. It would be nice if there were a checkbox on components and controls we wish to lock. Even the color control automatically gives the user full control of the color, again a checkbox to lock the component would be good. This would also help with the ten controls limit, as locked controls would not need to count. Ken. |
