Hey guys, i would REALLY appreciate it if you could do something... you know, there are users that do LOVE your planets, but would rather have our own star systems, space dust, and floating particles. If you could make an option where we can get the BG of a planet TRANSPARENT so we can use it in a different image, without having to painstakingly spend hours cutting out the planet-black from space-black, im sure people would love it smile:D

Cheers

FinnianM

(I will also try to mail you a taco for the first person that does this)

If you have FF can't you just edit the filter and disconnect all the background-related nodes, then use whatever planet alpha is used for the "composite planet onto background" as the alpha of an RGBA color output?

Before I read this post, I started working on it with my filter (Galaxy Explorer), and successfully cut the planet out to just get space, but the atmosphere is an issue, as it is blended not simply by alpha, but rather a more realistic blend mode that relies on the background. You can however not render the space part and just have it black, would that be just about as useful? Then you only have to worry about the atmosphere blending into the background. I'm about to submit an update to Galaxy Explorer as soon as someone helps me with this pickle. smile:)

Ok: It's submitted. Note that it's pretty complicated, and doesn't have any shadow effect. (Which is easy enough to add in pshop.)
