A number of filters only work on a square portion of a picture. At what point is the square imposed. How can they be liberated so as to render across the whole of a verticle or horizontal rectangular picture?
thanks for your thoughts. |

Profile gradients only work over a square portion of the image. In FF Version 1, the workaround was a snippet that stretched the gradient over the whole picture, such as this snippet. Some filter authors chose to use the snippet, some don't. In Version 2, there is a "free gradient" component that automatically stretches over rectangular pictures. Other components, like free rectangle, free ellipse, and free polygon also work the same way.
If using a frame, there is a check-box on the frame component that only when checked will stretch the frame to the edges of the picture. Do you have FF standard or professional version? If so, you can edit filters to make them fit rectangular images. If not, then you are out of luck. Hope this helps! ![]() |

I always thought that it would make the most sense for all components to automatically map to any sized image...but apparently there is a reason why they can't do it...or the "change" would be too involved without affecting all existing filters in the library...I dunno...

Thanks for the replies. Uberzev, I've encountered this problem with a number of filters but this weeks issue is with ThreeDee's Sea Level filter.

Yeah, unfortunately that filter was last updated in 2007 back when FF really only liked square images. If there's a filter you desperately need I could be persuaded to fix it for you... |

Have you tried taking the photo into photo shop and enlarging the "Canvas" not the actual image so that it is a square image
then apply the filter and reduce the canvas size back lets all whine for a wine port |

Yes, Voldemort, that's the exactly work around I'm using at present.
Thanks for the thought, though. Tom |

Filters that works only on square images should have a clear warning/notice about it (as well as components...)
