IN the Filter Forge Wiki you can see this in the Snippets part

The snippet serves for finding those basic effects that have proven to be the most useful to filter authors

and for anyone else that might be unsure what a 'snippet' is, it basically means a short part of something, or a small portion of something larger, e.g "Here's a snippet of the show that will air this fall.".

in FF use, it's a small routine either taken fr om another filter or made to be a small routine to be used as a part of another filter and isnt designed to stand alone, necessarily, as a full texture or image filter.

As I have began to make my own filters, I want to be sure to make the things in the right way and respect the work of other authors, so please I want to know:

What is the "law" or right way to use Snippets in your own filters ?

Are they totally free to use in any filter you want, and you can mix a few snippets in your filter?

When using the choosen snippets you just give credit in your filter to the author (or authors) of those snippets ? And that is all ?

I have been looking for more information about FF snippets usage in the wiki and help manual but did not find it yet,so that is why I am asking it here.

Please if you know wh ere can i find more information about this, it will be very welcomed and and thankful if you could put the link to it.

Thanks very much for your help

IMO, giving credit for a snippet is optional. I even read on one snippet where the author said to not give him credit, because credit is being overdone. Lots of these snippets are standard methods.

OTOH, it is nice when people create snippets. It makes it easier for the rest of us. And it's nice to be acknowledged. So if you do want to give credit, you can do it in the filter description. Or, you could click the comment button for the snippet, and post a thanks and credit in the forum.

As already said, there's no LAW about the snippets, but it's good manners and good practice to give credit in the filter description (or in the forum) to whoever made the snippet.
If you look at my GumBall machine filter, you can see I used parts of filters other people made. Some of the things they made I would have never come up with, and I just credit them to show my appreciation to their hard work.

Thanks very much for your answers and comments now I know more about how to use the snippets

So if I use any snippet I will for sure give credit and thanks to the author in my filter. Why would I not do it ?

I am NOT like others that could use snippets or filter parts and DO NOT give either credit nor thanks and respect to the author. I am refering to This thread here and also this thread too

Snippets are probly the most important to give credit to as they are absorbed into other filters without any usage going to the authors ........ in fact I can't see how they ever get any true usage points at all smile:| smile:)
