Okay I would like a filter that looks like cake texture when you cut a slice out of a cake. The closest thing I can find in the library is this.Craters Author: Alex Grain

It is close to what I need, but not quit there. I have tried to tweak this filter, but it always comes out to flat or to hard surfaced.

I need it to look like a close up of the textured piece of cake below.

In Alex Grain's Crater filter I can get this look, but it still doesn't look light and fluffy like cake texture.

Am I just trying too hard or asking to much to get it closer to the look of the real thing? smile:|

Any suggestions?

Are you going to use it for a 3D application, where you can use lighting, or is it going to be used for 2D graphics?

2D is what I need.

Believe it or not that makes it harder for me to help smile:|
I was counting on normal maps to add bumpiness.

Can you attach the tweaked version of Alex's filter, so I can work from where you got to?

The texture above is directly from Alex's filter. I just tinted it and increased the craters in it. I didn't save any of the tweaks as they usually broke down into some awful looking things. LOL

I don't see why you can't do it in 3D format and include lighting. It will still come out right in a 2D format. I can use all the filters on here with lighting for printing out in my crafts. It doesn't have to look 3D it just needs to look more like cake texture like in the 2D first picture on the top of my post.

Thanks for the nice try at this Morgantao, but I think these are still not quite it.

I took another stab at this last night except I started from scratch this time. I think I was just trying to hard the first time. Here is what I have now. These either look like cake or really bad carpet. smile:D What do you think? Any better?

Chocolate or maybe pumpkin cake?

Basic yellow cake.

Cherry or strawberry.

And just plain white cake.

That's actually not half bad smile:)
Try reducing the Pixel size slider a bit, see if that makes the granular texture a bit more... granular smile:D
Are you gonna submit that filter?

I am thinking about submitting it. It is a very simple filter and I may tweak it a bit first to see if I can get it a little more sharp. It is still just a bit blurry for my taste. But I think I finally am on the right track. I will try reducing it also as you suggested. That may just do the trick. Thanks. smile:)

Okay I did reduce the pixel size and made a trial in my printable cake box template. I think it looks very near the real thing. I need to give pixel8ted credit for the fantastic "Frosting" filter that can be found here.http://www.filterforge.com/filters/2921.html It topped my cake perfectly. smile:) Thanks also again to Morgantao for the suggestions.

Note: The quality is not as good as the full real sized version of this graphic. I had to reduce it a good bit to put it here on the forum. It looks much better uncompressed. smile;)

Mardar, another thing you could try in order go get the filter a bit more depth, is use a rough perlin noise height map to the granules you already have.

And I love the cake box!
