I have seen the Doctor House Tv series intro credits and they have a great lovely graphic style that I like much and I found a plugin that makes it possible in Photoshop but is expensive.
Here is the full video to see the graphic style All 3 House M.D openers/themes/intros Here are some screenshots I have found as example ![]() ![]() So I want to ask if you know and there is already some filter in the library that could do this kind of graphic style in FF. The possible nearest filters I have seen are: Film Noir by Carl ![]() Analogue by emme ![]() Bad Film by gws5597/URL] ![]() [URL=http://www.filterforge.com/filters/4820.html]StevieJ's DreamScape - ColorTones ![]() Foxxee's Mystic Mood Light ![]() FOR ME NONE OF THIS GIVES THE EFFECT OF THE HOUSE INTRO This are very good filters but for me is NOT the same kind of effect, I find that this ones above are: more dark or more light than the House examples above, or not as good the gradient effect around the edges, or too much blur added, or change the original colors too much, and the shading of the colors is not the same from my point of view. So Please, I want to suggest if someone want to make this kind of filter that could be interesting and very useful |

What's the name of the expensive plugin you found that does that?
Looking at how it works may help create the filter in FF. |

Well this comes from the company AutoFX and is the Mystical Suite
Mystical Suite I have not tried it myself and really do not know if this could give the same effect as the ones I have put from House TV series, BUT as they have many filters to make this kind of effects, I think that it would be possible. |

Oh, I see. You;d have to use several of their filters in order to get that style you wish.
I guess It could be done in FF, and would be simpler because you'de have to use only one filter. |

Yeah Morgantao's pretty much got it. It's mostly just layered effects and the rest of it is really really having a good sense of design and a good eye. The filter's probably 10% of the whole effort. I assure you this is really just a string of adjustment layers in photoshop. You really don't need additional tools to do this at all.
Here's the potential breakdown of the filter just for starters: 1. Import image ---> pre filtering (curves or levels) ---> pre-hue/saturation 2. vignette (or any simple radial gradient) --> [multiply or overlay blend with hue/saturation] 3. use perlin noise and produce some grudge ---> [overlay blend to vignette] 3.5 ---> Add a blur with mask (may be slower to produce higher resolution blur.) 4. ---> color balance (separate RGB or HSL or LAB (if you really want to go hardcore) and use curves to adjust each channel. 5. Assemble each channel back to RGB, HSL, or LAB. done. The rest of it is tweaking the values around and that's what will get you the effect. |

I have to say that I have never used the AutoFX plugins so I really do not know how they work and if it is used one or many filters, what I have seen is many examples made with this filters (that I do not know now where was it) and they were very similar to this ones from House intro credits. As you say very well, with a filter from FF would be easier and simpler.
Of course that the filter is NOT magic and will transform any image into the above examples, because you have to prepare everything and think ahead to be able to make this kind of designs and the filters is just ONE tool of the many needed. Is like a photographic camera, it does not make fantastic and amazing photos by itself, it is the photographer that is behind the camera that counts, you can have the most expensive and best camera and STILL do bad photos.
Thanks for your good tips, advice and suggestion, I will try to see what I can get. |

I think if you want it to look closer to the House intro, you should use black and white sketches like the in medical textbooks.
Here's a google search that will show you many examples to test your filter on. http://www.google.com/search?q=anatom...0&bih=1029 |

Thanks Morgantao for the link to this very well done medical sketchs, although my intention is NOT to make a duplicate of the House medical design, just the graphic design filter effect, although is interesting and useful to have this for testing purpose and see if the filter looks similar to the ones above.
Also there is another very different way to search for medical inside body muscles, and is doing a search for daz 3d muscle maps |

Thanks Skybase, yes although is mainly based on the Analoge filter by emme, I have also followed in some way your suggestions and have also seen how it is done in the filters above, and I will MIX more parts from others filter that I have found interesting to add more grunge and dirt.

Thanks for the suggestions of this little bits and pieces to be fixed.
As I already said, I have still to optimize and clean the filter and see really if all the components are needed or there is a better way to do it, and if some things can be replaced or removed. You surely know what you are doing, and have the experience and skills to know much about the components and how to combine them in the best way, but I have to use the trial and error or see what happens if I do this or that, or if I add this or remove that. |

Good to know about the DAZ muscle search.
![]() I thought the effect you want is mainly for black and white drawings, that's why I searched google for that. If you want it to work on full color graphics then it's something else, and obviously the filter is different. I like what you have done so far. It's good to see you're getting more comfortable with the editor ![]() |

I do not know when I will be able to put this in the library, as I want to get as I want and I do not like much how looks now the vignette effect, and want to add also some more things, although surely will be within this week.
Yes please, Carl, you can upload the update to the library, will be good. |

Great that you a done a NEW filter and not just an update to the Film Noir, and most surely is that I will like it ![]() I know what is like ![]() Thanks for making this filter and taking my suggestion into a new filter |

Thanks Morgantao, glad you like it. I want and wish to be able to finish this for tomorrow so it gets in the library, but really I am getting some bad problem with the crackles texture overlay that gets a bad effect, but think that willbe able to solve it. Also some problem with two blend modes that gives bad results and have to change it.

Hi SpaceRay,
Forgive the intrusion, I am quite new here... however that looks like the Orton effect was applied to those graphics. Haven't studied the filters much yet, but if you're in a hurry maybe this old link would be useful to you? http://pcin.net/update/2006/11/01/the...-the-week/ Lisa |

Well, I agree that it looks like some Orton effect, and is true but I think is much more than only that effect, it has much more work involved than only orton effect, and if you have seen in my first post above, on the list of filters already available I have not included the already available orton effect filter in FF Library.
Thanks for submitting it and I have seen it already in your gallery and I like it and is well done, I will see how it works. |

In this thread is not put WHY I have not continued making this filter
Reason 1 - I wanted to have well done high quality gradients with many different tones in a soft gradiation, but have not been able to do it yet, and also to add that ethereal look. Reason 2 - Carl have already made a well done filter with this topic and even has named it HOUSE ![]() ![]() House of SpaceRays' Lightbox So I wanted to make it even better than this filter already is as in my opinion is not really the thing I want and how I see is done the House graphical effects, and they have more work than what the Carl filter can do Here below I explain with examples what I mean that Carl filter could be made better to be really more like the House intro graphical effects ![]() |

When I load a source image that has a white background in Carl filter, after changing and modifying the settings in many ways and with different combinations, it still has mostly a white background and the gradient are not as long and soft as the ones shown here
And in this example below is shown better what the background should be instead of white ![]() |

Here above I have put 5 examples of what, in my opinion, are the things more Important to have in the filter I want to make, surely, that Carl's filter is a very good work, and is close and similar to this, but does not get these results shown here above.
And speaking of house TV series I have seen this great videos when searching for the above examples I have put This is the video taken for the 4 examples above Dr. House MD - Intro (European) The fifth example is from another video Full long (4:50) House M D theme song European version Nice and cool alternative graphical intro to show the names House MD - 177 Episodes in 7 minutes well done compilation of videos |

I mean I know Carl already did much of the favor but it's also just good practice to make something fr om what you're inspired by. Likewise if you don't get wh ere to start, try building the look in Photoshop first, then translate some of the things in FilterForge. Sometimes that helps you hint at what you need to do to nail the style.
See, the reason why we know what components to stick between each other is the fact that we know what we're doing in Photoshop. If you use Photoshop to manipulate and do some photo editing or image creation, you can really just get yourself somewhere. |
