I kinda like this one also, but - again - I have the feeling it could be faster... smile;)

You could try Roughness and Detail settings of zero (or 20 and 20) on the Blocks noise to speed things up a little more. Also, Set Alpha will only have an effect on the Surface Color sub-tree (i.e. the one on the Height tree is superfluous).

Oh, I think the alpha on the height tree is to prevent the hair and paint bump from extending into the non-painted areas. I might be wrong, if there is an unnecessary Set Alpha there somewhere.
Right, the Blocks noise probably doesn't need much if any of that detail. Haven't yet gotten into the nitty gritty of what makes things fast or slow. Blur is pretty obvious and roughness, but I should pay more attention to it, for sure.

I've checked again and you're right, the Set Alphas do make sense the way they are used. Nitpick retracted! smile;) smile:D

Can this filter be modified to work with 'non square' images?
I've just started with creating filters, and can't figure out how
to do it.
Otherwise like it's effect...especially on someone holding a brush and apparently painting themselves.

Yes. I'm planning on doing that with a number of my filters. Since you asked, this'll be the first...
