WOW!!! I tried to do something like some time ago and after many testing I could not do it, and now you have done something similar but much beyond my original idea, and even better of my idea was, as you have done it with great 3D effect with good shining light, and able to give nice different colors to each circle.
Well done and thanks Sorry to suggest this again (it seems that I may be the dropshadowman ![]() ![]() |

The shadows really do add something! Very nice addition.
I guess I'm being a picky bastard again but I really just think this is a nice example of where to optimize. I hope this benefits the community. Not that I'm trying to make every filter here faster, just saw a potential fix. You can basically remove the blend nodes all together in the portion of this filter where you create the shape by hooking up the resulting shape to the background. You can also make the background alpha which will remove the need for the threshold component at the end. The resulting pattern shouldn't look different. I think this would mildly benefit render speeds. ![]() |

Saw what happened. It looks like after you added the shadow, you fed the shape+shadow right into the height input. It resulted in that look. I fixed that by making a new height input image.
You should also take a look at how to handle height maps (also called bump maps.) Make sure you use a black and white image as input for your height. DO NOT use color input unless it's ignorable. In this case, it's not ignorable, hence I fixed that for you! So do take a look at what I did. Take a look at this wiki for clues on what makes a good bump map / height map. https://filterforge.com/wiki/index.php...ce_Filters I think I'll start a mini discussion / topic on how to deal with the height input since it's one of those advanced topics. But I highly think it's important and it contributes to the overall quality of the public library. But either way, nice filter!! Your right. This filter is a lot faster than mine. The problem i'm having is with the shadow. It's a bit too dark and intrusive for my taste and there doesn't seem to be a good way to fix it.

You're one step closer!! As a rule of thumb: any change upstream affects what's downstream, hence what's creating the shadow does require minor adjustments. I would say adjust the components that affect the blend for the shadow and you'll be pretty much done. I don't really know your preference honestly.
As a side note: As a FilterForge addict, I would add a slider so users can control the amount of shadow rather than you making all the preferences. |

You mean WE'RE one step closer! As a rule of MY thumb: anybody who makes so many changes to one of my filters essentially owns 50% of that filter. So we're in this together till we get it right. And as a matter fact I did tinker with all the components that have anything to do with the shadow to no avail.( and honestly,I don't know my own perferences. I just do somthing untill it feels right ). I think it may have somthing to do with changing the bottom bomber to grayscale. That made the edges of the circles a little darker. And if you think the filter needs any more controls, then by all means put them in.

Thanks very much both DJI and Skybase, for helping to make this filter better with shadows
I know that is not always easy to do it, and can be tricky depending of the shadow technique you may be using, and it can get much slower, this is why I suggested to make maybe a new filter. Sorry to be picky and bad for suggesting more, but I think this filter is really great and deserves to be done better if possible The way is done the optional shadow is with a checkbox, and would be better to be also able to customize how much shadow you may want with a slider, do not remove checkbox, just a add a custom shadow size slider Best way to add shadows to Bomber result? Thanx SpaceRay. Actually I have that second link already bookmarked and i've been reading it. I finally fixed the dark edges left by the modifications done to my filter. And I put the controls in there that everybody wants. I'm not going to use this as an update to my filter so if anybody wants these changes feel free to tell them where they can find it.
