I want to separate the image from the effect so that the rose 'emerges' and/or 'grows from' the effect.....and I'm having a brain cramp.....so any help would be greatly appreciated.....

I don't think I can be much help as my suggestion would be to use the levels like in my Embeded filter but I have no dout you probly already fiddled with levels.
The slice & dice is a nice effect worth developing

you put things on differnt legs within the filter and then use maybe a threshold combined with a set alpha. use a blend after that set to 100% opacity and maybe an overlay blend mode. something along those lines.
If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Just did some much-needed improvements to this one.....compliments of Uber and Kraellin.....whom I thank for being so helpful
Also, my thanks go out to jffe who gave me the threshold idea with his "Metal Melt" filter.....which I highly recommend.

Very nice! I especially like V2 #1, it literally looks like an iron curtain ^_^ There seems to be a very natural cloth flow to it despite the metallic look! This filter would be great for liquid metal patterns!

This filter is coming along nicely, as a purely personnel taste I'm not a great fan of grey with strong colours in art [ no affense ment ] - hence the example using a rich deep colour b/g is the one I like best............... Carl |

I wish that I could delete those first pics now......oh well.... Carl, funny, I got the feeling that you were not into metallics from your filter mods.....but I know that you are into glass.....

Hey Carl, they are coming soon..... I want to finish my "Uberized" versions of it (blown glass bubble versions) and then submit them all at once..... Hopefully, they will be worth the wait
