8 tentacles up for the unique concept!
![]() ![]() Just an observation: It doesn't randomize too well. You might want to tame the huge amount of sliders by introducing some very tight remapping ranges. --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |

I did go through and make sure all the controls remapped to stay in mostly sane ranges.
But there are definitely some combinations of slider settings make a mess -- individually each slider works well across it's range, but there are combinations where they make a mess. For example, grid warp and local terrain -- they only work well if one or the other is high. I could try to merge two sliders into one, with double remapping...I'll look into it. It would be nice to be able to mathematically link two constraints while still maintaining independence, but perhaps some of that is in the judgment & skill of the user. Color also plays a big factor. Being able to constrain color remapping would be helpful, as right now I don't have a way to prevent randomize from generating pink land and purple houses (which I guess could look like some sort of weird IR satellite image or something?) Also if the ground colors have too much contrast, it looks blech. |

Cool idea, and I agree with pretty much what's been said. It looks like a kind of catch 22 situation, to get what you want looks-wise, ya gotta sacrifice randomized control. You might try using the Noise Gradient to control an *area* of 3-4 similar colors, just an idea to get the # of color controls down, and maybe help with the randomizing.

Personally, I'd reduce controls to the necessary minimum, and automate as much as possible internally.
![]()
You could easily get rid of most of the color controls. Set up one color control for each important 'main color' and generate the other variations internally. This would help to stabilize the filter in randomization. One might even go further: hard-wiring certain colors and generating random color variance for them is entirely possible with the current toolset. For example, if you know the roads are always going to be 'kinda grayish', then hard-wire them to this color and generate variation internally! --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |

Good points..... You could also use the Hue/Saturation to 'deaden' the background color saturation to all usable colors.....or just use it with sliders.....which would allow you to control the range of color and deaden saturation to earth tones.....both ways avoiding all the 'undesirable' colors in randomization.....

Is it too late to hope for another update to this one ? I really like the looks, I just don't want to rewire some stuff cause then selmo might not get the usage credit. Update if possible ! Please.

Well, I have some changes and improvements started on this guy, but yah, at the moment I've run out of the trial period. So I be locked out.
![]() I'll likely end up buying FF eventually, but I am going to wait to see if I can get an extra couple HU filter credits to soften the blow. Besides, I'm gonna be pretty busy with work for a while. But I expect to finish and upload my update on this one eventually. I don't know which, if any, of my filters are close to attaining HU, but I suspect this one probably isn't a front runner. I like it, it's fun, but is it useful such that it would actually get used a lot? It's also in the misc category, which is the largest category and has some seriously stiff competition to get a HU. And finally, it just doesn't have as many downloads as some of my other filters (I know D/Ls aren't the same as usage, but still...) SO....if you've got some really cool enhancements and can't wait for my update, I say go for it and rewire it. I don't think you'll hurt my HU credits if you make a better version of this one. |
