I think your method would be best in this case but I still think it would be confusing. It would be a texture with an orphaned bump map and what would appear to be a nonsensical height map. Confused

Well you could always put them on a switch and have the user switch between them..But that includes more reading.. smile;) smile:)

I don't know. I just tried it using the black gradient and it works so well that I do not see how I can not release it that way.

Btw, I think your filter gallery, in terms of creative and technical breadth, is the best one at ff. smile:)

What I do and if you look at my HDRI filter is instead of plugging a height map into the height on the result component plug the profile grad into the height instead..Make sure its colors are black..You get zero height and still
get to use enviorments also...Of course the height control no longer works and its not used by randomizing but just a thought..

i like that. how about using a blend set to all blacks? seems that would do the same thing.

Seems like it would be the same to me. I just did a test and it looks like using a non-gradient way to get black is .954% faster. Which may translate to more on a more complicated filter - or it could just be an anomaly from me in doing enough iterations of the test.

I just added frame into the mix and it seems to perform the same a gradient.

The latest update has posted. smile:) As always, the new one will not show up until your browser is forced to refreshed and it will not download until the local copy is deleted.

Yep you could use any component for the black...You could even use a threshold as long as its all black.. smile:)
Don't know about the speed thou as far as which one may be quicker.. smile:?: smile:)
