Awesome! ^_^ Looks exactly like the Aqua buttons on the Mac OS X and you even have the line background that appears on the top bar background to boot! Excellent attention to detail with lots of control over the buttons! Of course -- it looks like candy to me, ahahahah -- yum! Outstanding work as always Crapadilla! ~^_^~

Nice, but if I want a single button with shadow, how do I separate the shadow from the repeating button below?

Thanks Zephos, I'm glad you like it!

That's a minor drawback I agree, but solvable with little effort: Just render a single button with 'cast shadows' turned off, then duplicate the layer in photoshop, offest it slightly and blur it. This is how it's done inside the filter. smile;)

Solving this shadow drawback inside the filter would require making all the buttons smaller so that the drop shadow falls within the frame completely when rendering a single button. I didn't like that too much. Another solution might be a control that masks out all but the center button at any given scale, but I'm not fancying that idea either. I might make a spin-off filter for this though!

Some of the variations display anti-aliasing problems along the perimeters of the buttons. I'll have to get rid of that tiny rim.

Edit: Update incoming.

I'm likely going to add a 'Missing Buttons' control that will allow isolating buttons with relative ease...

having lived through the whole 'pet rock era', i can tell you that these are definitely NOT pet rock material. smile:)

and yes, this does remind me of the whole 'bejeweled' and 'bedazzled' game things (the post tetris object falling puzzle type).

and whereas i have no idea what i'd ever use this for, i still think it's one of the coolest filters out there. but, just making a print of this would be use enough. so, i'd have to call it an art texture, texture as art itself. and that's pretty rare.

and here's a thought i had while writing this; what if you make the balls quite a bit smaller and did a sort of pixel art thing, where you paint with the different colored balls? now, that would be pretty cool smile8)

If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

I had no idea about that fad, as it was before my time! But I just read up on pet rocks... so hilarious! I'm gonna rename the filter 'My Pet Aqua Buttons' then, or maybe not!

Quote

In 1975, Dahl established "Rock Bottom Productions", a company that sold the rocks for US$3.95 each. The pebbles, imported from Rosarito Beach in Baja California, Mexico, were swaddled in excelsior and nestled in a small cardboard box, similar to a pet carrier. A "Pet Rock Training Manual," with instructions on how to properly raise and care for one's newfound pet (notably lacking instructions for feeding), was included. The instruction manual contained several commands that could be taught to the new pet. While "sit" and "stay" were fairly easy to accomplish, "roll over" usually required extra effort on the part of the trainer. "Come" was found to be impossible to teach reliably. People who purchased these unusual "pets" often gave them names, talked to them, petted them, and taught them to perform simple "tricks".

The cheap-o $0.25 machine knock-off "pet rocks" were more rounded squares really, or rounded octagons, but they looked quite a bit like what you've got going on, since they were mass produced and made of some kind of cheap yet shiny glass. I do not know what the original copyrighted hall of fame real official "pet rocks" looked like however. That said, maybe "Lost Marbles" would be a decent name for it, since you are working on making some of the disappear from the picture ha-ha. Either that or "Gumball Tetris", but I dunno if you can use "Tetris" in the title eh. smile;)

Ahahah, I couldn't stop laughing when you mentioned that it reminded you of a puzzle game ~^_^~ When I first saw it without reading the name, I got a distinct recollection of my favorite puzzle game Puyo Puyo (It was remixed, revised and repackaged under countless names like Kirby's Avalanch, Dr. Robotnic's Mean Bean Machine, Puyo Pop, to name just a few). Well, Puyo Puyo is more blob than gem like -- but those kind of games leave a lasting impression on the youth ^_^

Seems to be quite the challenge to develop a new name Aqua Buttons Galore -- needless to say, it'll be an excellent filter regardless of what you ultimately decide call it ^_^

Just an idea, but if you could set it up that the filter would be able to sample the colours from a background image to create the colours of the beads...then it could be a very interesting "lite-brite" kind of look.
(I would try it myself, but its a bit out of my league LOL)

That would require making a spin-off filter, as this is classified as texture.

I played around briefly with source image color sampling but didn't like the results. Might look into it again though...

I am currently learning AS3 and Flash and I am making a spacial comprehension game for my students. Anyway the gist of it is to select speheres equal to the target percentage. The closer you are the more points you earn and the less health is taken away.

Here is a pic, thanks Crapadilla!
