Thanks Steve. I debated quite a bit about what to use as the number one preset. The filter provides for a wide range of looks - maybe too many. If you look over the presets and notice one that you feel would better help grab the attention of the users or make them more likely to consider looking at the variations let me know. smile:) smile:)

I'm personally more attracted to variations #2, 3, 7, and 8.....but that's just me smile:)

I would suggest dividing this filter because of the wide range of cool effects....right down the middle between the effects found in variations 2,3 and 7,8.....between solid dark and light edge...... smile:)

I read in a thread recently that in order to achieve HU the filter should have the kitchen sink thrown in. Do you agree with that - that the broader the range of looks the more likely to go HU? If so maybe in stead of breaking this one up I should go in two new directions of 2,3 and 7,8 but with enough variation to keep from diluting this one. I don’t know, I hate to keep harping back to the usage thing but time is getting short and I do not have a single HU yet. smile:?:

Thanks smile:)

Hi Ron,

So far I have two that have gone high usage. One filter has only one option in settings but had plenty of pics for samples in the gallery and in the comments area. The other HU had samples in the User Gallery but none in the comments area of the filter however it has seven sliders in the options area.

I don't think it matters much, it's just whether people like the filter. If you feel a filter is great and it's not being noticed then it might help to get it noticed. (((it's half dozen or the other really)))

I only have two HU's though, so better to listen to someone else on this... smile:D

Jean

P.S. That last one is Da'Bomb'

----Eh, no need for kitchen sinks, or for second guessing yourself really. Just show some before and after examples (using pics you own a license to use, or took yourself of course), and illustrate what your filter does. It can be an uphill battle to make a filter that does something to both the life preserver, and the average picture out there, because that dang life preserver has a lot of things about it, that most typical snapshots don't/won't have in common. So yeah, get some before and after pics going on, and as long as people are posting in your filter threads, be sure to reply, other than that, it's kinda just up to the lurkers to use your filter and click *yes* on sending usage stats in when FF prompts them to. smile:D

Thanks Carl - this kind of filter is uncharted territory for me. Very glad you like it. smile:D smile:D

BTW, I updated the Generate Backgrounds filter finally giving you recognition for the repairs in the description. Is it just me or is giving credit where credit is due a particularly easy thing to forget? smile:|

I have read all his tutorials - AFAIK. I owe so much to him and Ron Bigelow:
http://www.ronbigelow.com/articles/articles.htm

and others. My entry into graphics has been on a shoestring - basically a low end dSLR, a used PC from Ebay and a copy of Photoshop, so these individuals gracious enough to make their expertise available for everyone is just too cool for words. The FF trial program has been a success for me even if I do not get the free copy. If I can't continue to make filters I will take what I have learned here and apply it to a trial version of Poser or Daz or Lightwave or something - no stopping me. smile:D

LOL It was a illustration for a band called "2Minutes2" CD cover, it was a concept album about the mutation and destruction of life through genetic engineering, with poor sales on there second album the record company dropped the band without releasing the third album - so of coures I never got paid so I though I'd use it here to stop it being totally wasted but by your comment maybe it's inappropriate and I should put my little creatures back in there box smile:| smile:) smile:cry: smile:D

Where did the filter go?

I thought the filter was unfocused and too difficult to predict or control. Some of the switches/settings completely redefined what almost all the other controls did. It made it impossible for me to provide consistent or coherent labeling for the controls. The six I had removed provided *some* useful effects and still have possibilities, plus they represent several conceptual breakthroughs for me in the area of image processing, but I have been trying to put myself in the position of the user and from that point of view I felt they fell short. I will replace them as soon as I can.
This is not to say that I am satisfied with my other filters but I want to be seen as moving forward not backward.

Sorry for any inconvenience,
Ron

Me too, that’s why I rushed it out, for the first time since entering graphics I felt like I may have potential, but it's also why I pulled it back – it deserves better - and with a little more study I can make it better. I am close to the breakout you mentioned earlier but not quite and I don’t want to build on a house-of-cards.

I hear ya smile;) smile:) I do think that "unpredictable" can be a very good thing in artistic effect filters. For example, you never know what you're going to get randomizing Carl's "Atmosphere" filter.....artists seem to like that about it.....and I think it went HU because of it.....

I look forward to seeing what you come up with smile:) smile:) smile:)

Come to think of it, no metamorphosis is complete without reemergence in another form. Maybe this is not the thread to a ghost filter but a larval filter. Maybe I planned this from the beginning… smile:devil:
